Read the first one. My brain leaked out of my ears in the process. I wish people would stop comparing it to Harry Potter; Stephenie Meyer writes some equivalent of soft porn for teen girls. JK Rowling is an excellent author for all ages.

Really, really bad.

"Stephanie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good"

- Stephen King.

King speaks the truth. The books made me sad for our generation and the future generation of young girls. I heard a nine year old girl say "I can't wait to find a guy like Edward".

I would've slapped her if I hadn't been to busy trying not to scream.

Want real vampires?
Queen of the Damned.

Yumm
Ehh, film wasn't that fantastic. Obviously a better portrayal of vampires, but yeah..
Stuart Townsend is a babe in it though.

Interview with the Vampire is pretty fucking awesome. Same with Secrets of Summer (short story within The Informers by Bret Easton Ellis) there are more.

Tbh, Twilight isn't a very good portrayal of vampires at all. :\

Interview with a Vampire scared me.
That's what real vampires do.

Just like other pop novels, the twilight series is shit. And like other pop novels, it will soon be forgotten once new ones come out.

IMO, vampires are meant to have a mysterious yet intriguing, sexy allure but whenever you're near them your instincts (for reasons unknown to you) tell you to run like hell. But, like a dead body (pun not intended) you can't look away.

Twilight, however, did pretty well with the werewolf lore.

It's great for a fuzzy teen romance read, but that's where it ends. If you're looking for quality or adventure/fantasy/action opt for HP. The movie's not bad though... a mixture of romance and action. Btw how come everyone says Kristen Stewart can't act ? She's fine!

hahah why the hell would you let a nine year old read/watch it
honestly it was the biggest waste of time
i agree with King 100%

I started reading it about a month ago and got bored of it. I disliked Edward, just because everything was about how devastatingly gorgeous he is... I felt as though there are all these points where we were supposed to sympathise with him and say 'Oh, poor Edward', but I didn't feel anything for him at all... I would have liked a few more character flaws to 'humanise' him a little more, because I hate characters that are practically perfect. And Bella... I just find her kind of pathetic.

Haha, you said it way better than me. A little way into the book, I decided that if I really wanted to read about a girl drooling over some gorgeous guy, I'd go on myspace.

My friend and I get into arguments about Stewarts acting all the time, he maintains that she can act. He only says she can act coz he thinks she's attractive.

I rebut with Emma Watson. AT LEAST SHE CAN SHOW EMOTION AND CHANGE TONE AND PITCH IN HER VOICE...

I really hate Kristen Stewart. She's a disgrace to the Australian Race. Just makes hollywood people think that we can't act. i really really hate her!!!!!!

After a year of saying "I haven't read it, I can't judge..." to anybody who asked me if I had read Twilight, whether they loved or hated it, I finally gave in and read it. So now I can judge.

I understand that Meyer is not a fantastic writer. She is too verbose (and uses the word 'incredulous' about 50 million times!) and writes alot of waffle. The book really doesn't need to be that long. Her syntax is very simple. Overall this makes for an easy, yet clunky and long read.

However:

Meyer is very, very smart. She found what the hungry masses of lonely spinsters and sexual tension craving preteens/teenagers want and is feeding it to them. They are lapping it up.
Bella is relatable, and Edward is the dream. "I love you more....no I love you more!" Enough said.

So, essentially, I don't see whats wrong with that. So it's not the best novel written in history, so what? I feel sorry for the 9 year old girl who is waiting for her "Edward", but it's not like Twilight is the first book that has made girl's swoon. For example, Harry Potter, all the male leads in Danielle Steele novels, Mills and Boone etc etc.

It is a piece of fiction, not very well written, but Twilight serves as an escape for many people.

So what's wrong with liking Twilight? Why do some people hate it so much?

I guess everybody is entitled to their own opinon, nothing wrong with that. This is mine :)

Because only vapid cunts drool over a fictional vampire with severe character flaws?
