the uac guide is only meant to be just that, a guide. they use last years cutoffs in the guide so if you have a copy of the uai cutoffs from last year if thats the only thing youre looking out for then you're set :p

I got mine last Wednesday. It's not that exciting after you go through it and all. The uais for most courses stayed the same and with the cut-offs: don't they come out at the end of the year?

but..... that can't be right..... i have last year's guide and the uai cutoff for psychology at UNCLE was 76.05 (in the book and for the uni). But that uai was last year's cut-off and has nothing to do with this year. And, they also said that the uai was going to go up from 76.05 this year, so that means it definitely can't be the same as last year.

or maybe i've just misunderstood your post.

you won't know officially what the cutoffs will be for your course (when you apply) will be until after your first round offer comes around. in your uac guide you will see the cutoff that was set for the 06er's (although this isnt a bad indication of what kind of uai you will need)

errr, not that i know of. From what i know uai cut-offs are the minimum uai you need to get into a particular course, for example - B Business at UTS had a 90 UAI but the cut-off was 89 last year. Over the years i've noticed that the cut-offs are released after your results come out in December. I'm pretty damn sure actually.

Just check the uac site just in case, but as i said - i think im correct :)

if you make the cutoff youre most definitely in. but they do take people under the cutoff you know...to fill the other places. however if a course is really popular and youre under you probably won't get the spot. this is why its so important to put your preferences in the correct order (irrespective of expected uai)

You'll have to buy it at a newsagency for $25 or thereabouts if you are no longer at school.

They definitely don't take people under the cut-off....thats why it's called the cut off. The one published in the UAC booklet is the lowest UAI they made an offer to in 2007 during the main round of offers (ie does not include late and final round offers)

Just because you get the UAI cut off that is in the UAC guide does not necessarily mean you will be made an offer for next year. They don't release the UAI cut-off's for entry in 2008 until mid January.

The UAI's from last year are however a reasonable indication of what may be required for acceptance in 2008. I would use these as your targets but be aware that they can and do change. Particularly with courses that change in popularity a fair bit. Courses such as law, pharmacy etc tend to stay pretty stable as they are in such high demand.

Hopefully this has helped people.
Cut off's = minimum UAI to which an offer was made in the main round last year
They tend to stay pretty stable but can change from year to year. We won't know what our cut off's are until mid january when we get our offers.

That's the theory. But offers are sometimes made below the cutoff. 2007 UNSW Commerce, for instance.
