I decided to throw something together b4 the 2003 results are released.

This version is accurate for UAIs >60 and marks >25% of state.
For values outside this limit the prediction is dodgy.
Also courses that don't have a large candidature is dodgy too.
However, you must remember this IS an alpha version.

You need Java 1.4.2 to run it.

it is only 20kb :p

unlike the 2megs of lazseeker. However, you do have to download the java plug-in

It automatically gets the top 10 units (including 2 units of english)

You're making my life so difficult! :p I'm going to install Sun's JVM just for you jm123.

It's 2MB to download Java 1.4.2! (J2RE)

Not a bad applet, but i haven't used UAISeeker myself to compare this to that, so no comment besides, good job & effort :)

You mean LazSeeker (2001 HSC), not UAIseeker (2003) ;)

I hope you're happy jm :D :p :p
I'm going to lose:

os[Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 1 (5.1 - 2600)] uptime[1w 6d 8h 35m 56s] cpu[2-Intel Pentium 4, 3347MHz, 512KB (0% Load)] mem[Usage: 475/1024MB (46.39%)_[|||||-----]]

because of you :p (I'll cancel the restart and do it in a month ... LOL)

edit2
Very nice applet, as Winston has stated.
I like the interface/controls :)

I only have one (minor) issue - when entering marks, you have to hit Enter everytime you want it scaled. Could this be automatically scaled everytime a new mark is entered? (or the scale moved). It's nothing big, but it saves time hehehe.

I do however like the automatic UAI and aggregate calculation and "auto-selection" of the top 10 units. Well done :) (the UAIs are very accurate IMO).

I really like the sliders, and it seems reasonably accurate for high values.

Might want to check your 0.05 rounding though. ;)

It's very fast too, or maybe that's just me. The menus are very responsive and 'snappy' which I like. Loving the flat-look UI too, not to mention the sliding scales - but I am wondering, why the marks go up in 0.5 increments for Extension 1 English (or other one unit subjects, I assume)? Also, and I know this isn't a big issue, but if somebody scored 90% in Extension 1 English, the marks have to be 'calculated' manually for one unit subjects - rather than having it converted to a mark out of 50, if "90" is entered for a one unit subject. It's nothing serious, but by entering 90 (assumed to be the percentage), you can then convert that to a mark out of 50 (45/50), rather than have somebody have (90*50)/100 or divide by two - which gets messy when you've got "83%" or something like that. Just my opinion/request :)

I'm sure that was just a test-run (example). Unless James really did get 100 for Biology/Philosophy, along with CAFS? LOL ;)

edit
Can I please have an additional line jm? It doesn't cater for more units - I'm entering my own assessment marks (just to play around) and I need more lines, for the subjects that I do. :p

@Laz/Winston: There are 14 units there, and I suppose it's still buggy/alpha. I thought it automatically selected the best 10 units for you? Maybe that was the calculation for all 14 units. There should really be a limit of 100.00 placed on this seeker. ;)

edit2
I've noticed that you've included most if not all of the courses - way to go! Also, with two-unit subjects, I can enter "45" (for Mathematics Extension 1 - but for a 4U student, so it's doubled) - this mark of 45 automatically doubles to 90, which I think is really cool, but it doesn't work the other way? If you were to do Extension 1 English, and enter a mark of 80, it assumes you're trying to get 80 out of 50, instead of 40/50?

I know it works in the forward direction however, but not in reverse.

Thanks for putting this together. It seems to work quite well, and should make the 18th slightly less awkward, having at least a general idea of what UAI my marks would gain. (Hope I can do as well as the trial..Those marks would give a UAI of 96.45, which is more than enough.)

Are those stats from the 2002 HSC?
If yes, you can't get 100 in Biology. the highest HSC mark is only 97.8

Maybe it's not from 2002, but from UAI seeker 2003 or another external source. It's not totally accurate, and admittedly it is an alpha, but a very good alpha if you ask me.

In 2001, it was 97.6 I believe.

lol, i thought i fixed the 0.05 rounding, oh well...

It uses 2002 figures

this fixes a bug with the courses with only max score

also is it true that you can't have a HSC score below 50 for a 2unit course? cause isn't that below band 1 which is the bottom of the results sheet?

I know it works in the forward direction however, but not in reverse.

For 1 unit courses, you have to select 1 unit, it is a bug that the slider then goes to 0.5 increments (just select a whole number).

the final version will dynamicly add rows

it selects the best 10 units(including 2 units of english) of whatever units you inputed marks for.

"I only have one (minor) issue - when entering marks, you have to hit Enter everytime you want it scaled. Could this be automatically scaled everytime a new mark is entered? (or the scale moved). It's nothing big, but it saves time hehehe."

yeah, that is good idea

for 4unit ppl just select 2unit for the course, for 3unit ppl select 1unit for the course.

""I know it works in the forward direction however, but not in reverse.""

reverse will be in final version

I thought Band 2 was the Mid range i.e. 50 +

Cool thanks for that jm :) I'm liking the adding of rows, dynamically.
For 1 unit courses, you have to select 1 unit
Haha yeah, I'm just a bit lazy then :D
it selects the best 10 units(including 2 units of english) of whatever units you inputed marks for.
Just on this, if you did Extension 2 English, whilst still inputting marks for English (Advanced) - and your 3 and 4 unit marks are much better, does your applet include the 'best two units' of English, or is it only programmed to accept English (Advanced) marks over Extensions?
for 4unit ppl just select 2unit for the course, for 3unit ppl select 1unit for the course.
I think you have misunderstood me here? That is only applicable to Extension 2 Mathematics - whereas I was referring to Extension 2 English, which works differently to Maths.

Mathematics
2U - forfeited
3U - two units
4U - two units

English
2U - advanced
3U - one unit
4U - one unit
well, whatever is band 1
Band 6 - 90+
Band 5 - 80-89
Band 4 - 70-79
Band 3 - 60-69
Band 2 - 50-59
Band 1 - Sub 50
:)

errr not if you do four unit. ;)
English Extension 1 and 2 is different to Maths Extension 1 and 2. See my post below:

This means, (for Winston) that:

If you do 2U Mathematics, you would only have:
- 2 units of Mathematics (makes sense ;))

If you do Extension 1 Maths solely, you would have:
- Two units of Mathematics
- One unit of Extension 1 Maths

If you do Extension 2 Maths, you would have:
- Two units of Extension 1 Maths
- Two units of Extension 2 Maths.

Mathematics
2U - forfeited
3U - two units
4U - two units

English
2U - advanced
3U - one unit
4U - one unit
If you did 2U English, Standard, ESL or Advanced, it's counted as two units only.

If you did 3U English, you've got your 2U English with the Extension 1 (1 unit) on top.

For 4U English students, you've got the 2U English, with the Extension 1 (1 unit), and the Extension 2 (1 unit) on top - for a combined total of four units of English. This is different to Maths Extension 2, as you don't forfeit the 2U Mark.

:shy:
