Interesting. The uai's for many courses fell for this year. Not complaining, btw! What do you think is the reason for this?

i think the unis offered more places, less old ppl applied for uni and the HECS fees went up.

the 7000 odd extra places definately lowered the uai cutoffs. i have also heard that there were considerably less applicants this year compared to last year, so less applicants and more positions = lower cutoffs :)

i also think of it like this, we were not scaled as much as last year (i think?) and therefore by having lower uais the cut offs would need to reduce as the uais were lower

dont forgot the increase in uni costs alot of people can not afford this so they go to tafe or a college

and maybe because the government's new HECS system implemented that to take effect this year also put people down to go to uni.

Less tertiary retention rates due to steady (and increasing economy). Many people are taking up trades instead and opting for further education in the future. Thats what I heard in the radio anyway.

There were less places available this year at ANU. Around 2000 offers in total or something. Hence the rise in cut-offs.

Yes, ENTER scores in Vic have also dropped, including a few course that are not affected by the rise in HECS fees . Some course had a considerable difference between this yr and last yr - up to 6 points.

i think the ANU cutoffs went up because it made less offers-1700 approx, compared to 2000 last year. only 300 less, but when it's that small an intake, and demand goes up a little bit, it makes a big difference-compared to usyd's or unsw's 10 000 undergrads first years (totally guessing that number there).

UOW's cut offs haven't dropped. Or increased. Or changed at all for the last, oh, 3 years at least. They seem to set them at an arbitrary level. Why, I don't know.

It's got to stop somewhere. The cut offs can't keep dropping forever, so I imagine they'll either stabilise around these levels or start to increase again because more people see getting into uni as a viable choice, due to low cut offs.
