You should get interviews all round. You should expect to recieve an interview from UNSW, UWS, UNCLE, Uadel, UWA. You've got a good chance at getting an interview at Monash, but yeah it depends on this years cohort since Monash is now the only undergrad med school in Victoria since Umelb turned graduate. But yeah your umat is high enough, you should get an interview.

JCU if you are a local/Qld student, but it depends on your application. UQ requires an OP1 in addition to umat. Have you sent special consideration into QTAC?
What special consideration do I have to send into QTAC for the extra 2 rank points, I was under the impression that it was automatic? Please write back ASAP. Cheers!

Nope, UAC has the EAS system, QTAC has their own 'special consideration' scheme.

http://www.qtac.edu.au/Applying-CurrentYr12/SpecialConsideration.html
http://www.qtac.edu.au/InfoSheets/SpecialConsideration.html

UQ Special consideration: "(SCED) special entry scheme is available to students applying for entry to UQ through QTAC, if they have experienced a situation which has had a negative effect on their academic results."
http://www.uq.edu.au/study/index.html?id=4289

It is not automatic, it's like EAS in NSW, you have to provide documentation, evidence, references, etc.

If I got a UAI of 96.5 -> 97.5 where do you think I would get offers, considering I have applied at every undergraduate medicine course and UQ (I get 2 bonus points at UQ)? Any chance of Monash?
It's hard to predict where you might get university placement offers. In terms of interviews: I got 196 for my UMAT (2005) which got me interviews at all the universities to which I applied which had interviews - UNSW, Newcastle and Monash. As Wooz indicated, Monash will undoubtedly become more competitive now that Melbourne is running a graduate program. If you could get a UAI in the high 98 / low 99 range (combined with a good interview) you would stand a good chance of getting a place at Monash.

I just thought I'd let you know I contacted Monash Uni regarding their UMAT cutoff scores, and in 2007 the minimum overall score needed to be considered was 59. The lady also said it's expected to be higher this year seeing as UMelb no longer does UGrad Med.
Sucks for me.

Oh, you should have been more specific.

I thought you were talking about 'bonus points' from special consideration and not the enrichment scheme that UQ has. In that case it's automatic.

hey,
I got a total UMAT score of 168 (overall score 56) which is 80th percentile.
I have an interview to UNSW through the Rural scheme, I was wondering if anyone knew what my odds would be for one to Newcastle Rural/Remote?
Does Newcastle lower its UMAT score for Rural/Remote more than UNSW or less?
Thanks

It really depends on your rurality, and the cohort that has applied. You've got a very good chance of getting an interview at Newcastle. If I were you, I would apply to as many uni's as you can.

Yes, Newcastle does lower is UMAT score and uai for rural/remote applicants. Newcastle generally has a lower entry requirement than UNSW. You will almost definately get an interview there. Remember applications close this tuesday!!!

Wooz,
Thanks for that.
That certainly reduces the stress.
So do they decrease the required UMAT score lower for ppl who are more rural than others? Cos I'm from Nowra which is barely only just classified as rural.
My other worry is that UNSW considered UMAT + predicted UAI + application reponse when giving interviews, whereas UNCLE only considers UMAT. And my UAI estimate certainly worked in my favour.

Does anyone know when UNCLE begins 2 offer interviews?

Hmm, Nowra is RRMA 3 or 4, they do lower umat, but it depends on rurality, applicants, etc. Yes, they do decrease the UMAT score based on rurality as it is unfair to those who are in no where near populated areas.

You may get an interivew, no guarentee's though. I thought you were more rural, based on you obtaining the UNSW interview. It is usually harder to get interviews at UNSW, but then again they use different selection criteria.

Maths C= HSC 3 to 4 Unit, it's a bit ambiguous, but yeah it is compared against vic's specialist mathematics so it can be presured they require hsc 4 unit maths, however you should confirm this with UQ.

im in the ACT and im currently doing a double major in specialist maths. which is the highest level u can do. does that mean i am eligible for the 2 bonus ranks on top of the 1 bonus rank for an external tertiary enrichment course which i have completed?
thanks
Yes, specialist mathematics ACT is listed, depending on the external tertiary enrichment. Good luck.

Addycasto: Good luck, however the score is unfortunately lower than last year's non-GWS cut-off.

Yes the cutoffs for GWS applicants and non-GWS applicants are different.

"In 2007 successful applicants were in the top 10% of all students who took the UMAT. A non-GWS applicant required a UMAT raw score of 183 to be offered an interview while a GWS applicant required a raw score of 164."

from what i've heard, the uai is a threshhold at uws. ie. once u get above 95 (non gws), everyone's in the same boat.

has anyone heard anything about uws scaling the sections differently?

If the UMAT cutoffs haven't risen too much this year you should be fine.

We'll have to wait and see.

is the umat a threshold as well? so does that mean that once you pass the uai and umat cut off's, everyones in the same boat for interviews?
