Hi Everyone,

This is just a quick note to let you all know that O-Week at UNSW is coming up and it's going to be huge!

O-Week runs for a full week from March 3-7, with activities all day and night. If you'd like to find out more, check out the website at http://www.oweek.unsw.edu.au

We also have a forum set up there, where you can ask any questions you might about UNSW and O-Week. O-Week volunteers (Yellowshirts) are on hand on these forums to answer any questions you might have and point you in the right direction.

We're looking forward to seeing all UNSW students both new and old in O-Week, don't miss out!

Cheers,

Yeah definitely DO NOT MISS O-WEEK!!

It's seriously one of the most fun weeks ever.

Apparently Anh Do is the comedian this year for the comedy night, should be good.

I really hope there's another shit comedian this year - most of the hilarity was from the shit people in the crowd were calling out.

Is UNSW 0-week really worth it? Like what kind of activities are done there?

Yeah, the timing of O-Week changes around a little bit each year. Either way, it's always the week before classes start. It's a little later this year because the uni's moving to 12 week sessions, so everything starts a little later.

Im pretty upset about it, friend. Good to see Prime Minister Kevin Rudd issuing a public statement, as per his duty, pffft.

Sad though. Betcha Britney Spears will die soon as well, and then they'll blame the paparazzi, and then everyone'll be like "damn you paparazzo!", and then a year or two will pass, and then they'll be back at it. Just like with Diana. :(

If you live in rural areas, I'd recommend that you don't go, unless if you have ALOT of issues (academic) to discuss.

Otherwise UNSW has an Enrolment Enquiries number: 9385 1110

Otherwise, it really is a waste of time.

During O-Week,

DO not go and queue for your ID card (U can get it during UNSW semester, with NO queuing).

Do go for the Library Orientation sessions since you really have to understand how to access the library catologue.

Yeah seriously, don't worry about socialising or having fun... it's uni guys. In fact I'd suggest you all just stay home and start your readings a week earlier.

edit: this is sarcastic, for those of you playing at home

but if you want to get your ID card ASAP, its best to come to uni early... something like 8:30am.... there's usually no lines whatsoever at that time (of course, if everyone does this, then you'd have to come even earlier)

Being the O-Week rep around here this may seem biased, but I'd have to disagree with this. O-Week is particularly useful for people from out of town, as it gives them a chance to get to know not only the University, but also the surrounding areas. It's important that you know how to get to and from Uni before your first day of class, and O-Week is a great time to do some exploring so you know exactly where you have to be for your first class.

This is something to be wary of. You can indeed get your student card during semester, but there are times during O-Week when it is useful to have it. For example, the night time events in the roundhouse are either free or greatly discounted if you're a student, so if you don't have your card you'll miss out. Student cards also have your travel concession stamp on them, so until you have it you may have to pay full fare on public transport.

If you're worried about queues you can always come in to uni any time before O-Week to pick up your student card.

This is really good advice. The Library is a large and at times confusing place. Library tours generally run throughout O-Week and Week 1 (although times are yet to beconfirmed). These tours are taken by library staff and show you how to find books and other resources, how to access the computer systems and everything else you might need to know about getting the most out of the library.

Hope this helps :)
