Errr.. it's an all boys' public school... lol.
Better yet, the teacher is pedantic as all hell. He told us that every fornight until the HSC itself he would hold us back and train us "like racehorses"

hmm. we were told learning the convetions is the key to success. although, listing conventions in an exam won't get me many marks if i dont have examples lol

We did Cordelia first as well, which I may add was *much* better than the horrible Big Sleep...especially as our teacher jumped around the classroom when she was mimicing Clarissa:p

I had to do critical analysis' on 3 other texts, each to be over 3,000 words in length, demonstrating every last detail.. it had to total something like 10,000 words altogether. I nearly died when I realised that's more than my Major Work and Reflection put together :S

Did anyone do Anil's Ghost as a text?
I did all four of the prescribeds...Anil's Ghost is heaps better than Marlowe as well, I found it was very fragmented but the introspective style drew me in.

EDIT (glitterfairy): Please feel free to direct people to your thread asking for critique on your story, but do not re-post the entire thing here :S that's essentially double-posting --> mod headache.

Ondaatje did Anil's Ghost, right?

If it's anything like English Patient or in The Skin of a Lion, I might be able to help you out.

*was trained by an Ondaatje fanatic*

I can see it happen sometime in the future - that we will be asked to write a straight-out reflection like that in EE2. I guess in a way that's the first section of the EE1 paper anyway.. meh.

I think they decided to limit the amount of reflection because they like to run the HSC english courses Brave New World style - conditioned at the dawn of senior studies (aka Year 11), given soma through the canteen to make us into mindless drones and taught the basics of our study machines in Personal Education.

Oh, did I mention that blackboards are hypotising devices :D

lol BOS know if they introduce more reflective statements, there would be more angst and not enough of the keywords they like to hear.
