do u think 4 references are enough for an 1000 word essay...

these are only counting references which i took quotes from.

if i include references on which i based my ideas on i'd have about 6

would that be enough,

its due tomorow

hmm ... 1000 words isn't that long, so 4 quoted references should be fine. However, its difficult to say cause every assignment is different, and some assignments need more quotes than others. If you think that 4 quoted references is enough to get your point answering the question, then yes, 4 quotes references is fine.

However, only having 6 references altogether doesn't seem like a large amount. But if your happy with it, then it shouldn't be a problem.

You will soon learn that assignments vary in the amount of references that you are required. I had an assignment in second semester last year, which required 30 resources.

I would personally try to have more than the minimum, but if you have to have at least 4 and have 4 than that will be fine. Although this is assuming of course that they are good sources. It is equally as important to have a range of sources, if not more important than having a lot of them. So as long as they aren't all websites (if there are other sources available on your chosen topic), and you're showing that you've researched around then it's ok. 1000 words is not a lot of words as far as uni essays go so I think, like cape said 4 is fine... :)

I recently did a 1000 word essay and I had 10 resources.
The thread starter was asking specifically if four references were enough for a 1000 word essay, not how many references you put in for YOUR 1000 word essay...

The issue here is not how many references you have, but how you use your references. It doesn't matter if you have twenty references, you will still get fucked over if you don't use them properly. Some people get into the habit of grabbing random quotes from equally random textbooks, and just slap them into the body of their text. The markers can easily see that this is not an evidence of wide reading. It is better to go through 4 resources in detail, than to go through 20 resources and grab one little quote out of each one.

Why don't you do what you usually do, Natstar? Report me to the moderators so they can ban me from these forums. Thats what you usually do to those who catch you out and highlight your pathetic nature and hypocrisy. Not only are you plaguing this board with your bullshit, but other uni boards have to put up with your bullshit 2-3 word replies and SMS style abbreviations. Also, is the *shift* key not working really well on your keyboard, or are you just having natural difficulties when it comes to CAPITAL letters?

not sure if its the same as my units..but whenever in my outlines it says be cautious of website and magazine/newspaper articles it doesnt meant they dont want you to use em - it refers to credibility

eg - if you're researching the role of women in the work place, a website called "men against all women at work" or something like that isnt going to be credible as its clearly an organisati9on aimed at denegrating another group, rather than sourcing and researching their info.

If you base your ideas on something then it must be referenced.

You are using someone else's intellectual property to arrive at conclusions which you wouldn't have been able to make yourself.

Failure to do so is plagiarism.

Considering this is probably their first essay for uni, I suppose it's a pretty fair amount for a 1000 word essay. Don't stress over it, you'll be doing that in later years.
