Hey, entering uni I have realised how important it is for us to have a bos site for each subject with notes, outlines etc. Not only is it good for current students, it's also great for aspiring students trying to select their units of study.
Guides such as surviving uni could also be put up.

I, for example am willing to type up more extensive then 'blackboard' (the usyd online communication site) notes after each lecture.
So, if anyone misses one for any reason, they could easily catch up.

What if we opened up donations for a new site? I'm not exactly sure how pages are set up but I'm sure it won't be that dificult considering the benefits we'll be able to reap from having a specialised university site.

It wouldn't work. There are too many different courses, and each year and even semester to semester subjects change. What happens to people who don't do your subjects let alone go to your uni? Uni students should be able to decide for themselves if they want to attend lectures or not. And if they miss lectures - unis have websites which post up lectures. Your not going to be spoon fed for the rest of your life.

what does having lecture notes have to do with being spoon fed? These notes are invaluable for revision. Say someone comes down with glandular fever, this puts them out of comission for a month. They will suffer as a result of this as they can't attend the lectures.
Yes, theres many courses, but is it really so hard to make a seperate page for each uni and course.
For example, click on english and you get Module 1. (text bla, bla, bla, blabla, etc) Module 2 (once again all the texts.)

So you can click sydney uni, click a faculty/subject, then see all the notes for the subject,
the person submitting notes/assignments can then just label it as (eg ECMT 1010 lecture 2 notes)

You think you can do this now. But in a few weeks, I doubt you will be saying that. If someone does happen to get sick and can't attend the lectures - universities have special considerations that you can apply for - which would be better than just reading someones notes.

I doubt that many people will have enough time to write all their notes and post them up - especially when no one else is doing the same course or same subjects.

yeh theres wayyy too many different subjects... and most lecture stuff is like available through your own uni anyway (if they wish to make it available) or library

The spoonfed argument is one of the most annoying bullshit arguments people use at uni. "You're not in high school anymore... blah blah blah." It's a load of crap. Help is available if you need it, you just need to ask. Once you ask for help, you'll be spoon fed until you've had enough. I think it was made up by fuckhead elitist academics who tried to scare a bunch of people from going to uni.

Also, the idea of uninotes isn't that bad. All this negativity. Obviously instead of offering notes for each subject, the ideal way would be a pool of areas of study. Students add their notes/work into a certain pool which allows other students to search through. Just because some subjects are different doesn't mean other notes are wrong. Beginners microeconomics is beginners microeconomics. Maths is Maths, C++ is still C++. The info would be there, but some notes have more than what's needed, while others have less.

For the spoon fed arguement - its the truth - you dont get everything placed infront of you. You actually have to thoroughly research assignments etc etc tec. The help is different than being spoon fed.

What about the people who don't do common subjects? or even common degrees. Not everyone does subjects or degrees related to business, economics, it, etc etc etc. I don't even do any subject related to those disciplines, and I'm sure that other people on here don't either.

What about the HSC students who don't do popular subjects? There's no notes on BOS for them. If you want to believe that "you're not spoon-fed" tripe they feed you (pun not intended), then why would students who don't do common subjects be at a disadvantage? They've still got to do everything themselves, it's just one less place to look.
You're right, there will be subjects/degrees that aren't popular/common. Just like there are subjects in the HSC that are similar. I believe the way around this is "deal with it."

Regular undergrad = spoonfed, but at a higher level (i.e., you are still being told what to do, it's just that it is up to you to take note of what has been said and act accordingly).

Ask a fellow student or two (a 'real'/physical rather than a virtual/cyber support network), ask the lecturer or a tutor, refer to a textbook or an article, etc... Make use of the net, but there is no need to go overboard and ignore the resources that are already at your disposal.

Yes, it would increase the storage space, but do you really think that many people from minor subjects will submit notes?
I'm sure that a number of people would chip in for the site's increased bandwidth and maintenance. I would.

The time, effort and expense involved are enormous. If you are willing to head the project yourself, by all means do so. But don't forget that the administrators of this website keep it going in their own time, during their own studies, and with their own money.

ok, what about this:
based on demand we make a seperate forum for each subject in the uni. The least popular ones will be under "other".
We also need a faculty of education forum inside the sydney uni one, as that's missing.
So for example, under arts you may have:
Philosophy, sociology, english, media and com subjects
And subjects such as anthropology will be under other.
