Title. Cannot find anything about restrictions/limitations of donated blood. Any help is appreciated.

* low storage life
* expensive,costly,time consuming to screen artificial blood for diseases
*only 1 in 30 will donate, but 1 in 3 will need some kind of blood related product in their life
* easily contaminated
* people have different blood types,so have to receive correct blood type
* expensive to store blood

Also note people have restrictions placed on donating blood if they've had tattoos,piercings, been in certain overseas countries, been in UK during mad cow epidemic or engaged in certain sexual practices.

Does anyone have any articles on artificial blood ?
That deal with
• current limitations of donated blood,
• the benefits of artificial blood and
• where the scientific community stands, i.e. current research being undertaken into the development of artificial blood.
This is for my annotated bibliography -_-
