When applying for med at unsw you need to get a UAI prediciton from your pricipal. My pricipal is new (started this year) and i've never even talked to him before. He's not even sure on how the UAI is calculated ("They count the best 10 units, don't they?" - him asking me), i don't know which (if any) of the teachers he's talked to, cos my phsy teacher thinks i'll get over 90, and my chem teachers says i should get about 90, my english teacher says high 80's, and maths mid 90's for 4u and 3u (although my maths teacher is not here atm). Now you'd think these results would get me around 99 right? We'll apparently not according to my pricipal - he gives me a prediction of 96... wtf? This effectively screws my chances of getting an interview for med...
Does anyone have any idea of what i can do? Can i do anything at all?
Thanks for any help.

haha, people skills are needed here I guess, heh.

Do you have a UAISeeker account? Log in, put the marks in that your teachers have predicted and show him the UAI.

If you're ranked first in most of your subjects, you could say the dux last year got 99.xx (I hope they did for the sake of your argument), so it'd be reasonable to assume you'd get closer to that.

The most important thing would be to stay calm and don't get angry with him, calmy try to resolve it with him. Go and see him and say you have a concern about your prediction, you think it's a little too low and you're wondering how he came up with it. After he explains it to you (or doesn't :D), provide your points and see what he has to say then.
Thanks for the advice. I was gonna do this today, but when i went to see him, he said that he had already sent it off, and had raised it to 97.
97 is still going to get me nowhere... Looks like i'll be doing actuarial studies....

There's no way he can 'not agree' with the teachers, because he's never even seen me before, let alone have any idea about my academic ability. I just think that he has no idea about how the HSC works.

Does that really screw your chances? I can't see more you can do beyond what you've already done though.

The interviews are held in september, so the prediction is the only idication they have of the uai.

The only chance i have is with the late round interviews, after the uai's have been released.

Relax dude, people doing med say the interview is the most important thing and UMAT. I know someone who got accepted into medicine below the UAI cut off with 92.
I'm not worried about the uai, i know i'll get one high enough, i'm just worried because with a prediction of 97 it'll be nearly very difficult for me to get a first round interview.

But that wouldn't have been at unsw would it? If so they would have had a first round interview (and thus a high uai prediction).

Thanks for the replies everybody.

well using a prediction is a pretty stupid way of doing things
every school would be putting through like 50 estimated 99's just to give their kids a better chance

Some country people have gotten in with 89, 90, that kind of UAI under the Access scheme I'm told...it was turtle who told me, PM him :).
