Yeah, to go back to do Masters/B Teach in the open day last year they showed me this 4 page form, you just fill it out, get approval from the DET for the degree you've just done, some other piece of paper and then just apply for the M/B Teach. Sounds good and easy...

And you get a better qualification than if you do an education course. :(

Really? What's the diff between B/M Teach and B Ed? From what I heard if you have a masters it gets you into a higher pay bracket... but that's very grape vine....

Good question. I haven't given too much thought to career prospects. All I really know is that I'm hoping to study abroad in France next year, and hopefully write a PhD thesis in physics for usyd at the end of my degree. After that, I might consider a professorship or a research career in either France, Australia or the USA.

As far as I know, Masters is better than a Bachelor, and sends you into a better pay bracket (as you said).

But if you're still only a regular teacher aren't you still doing the same job, same work and hence not deserving of more pay?

Masters is better I think...But a B Ed is better than a B Teach and a Dip Ed. jhakka, you're not missing out. the ed/arts is a fantastic degree!!!
I'm certainly not worried. I can't wait to start. I just feel that it's a bit odd that someone who has done a specialised teaching degree for five years isn't getting the qualifications of someone who does the two years of Masters (after whatever degree they do first).

I 'spose they would be specialised in whatever area their degree is in, though.

ive actually been told by all my teachings that B Ed is a really bad degree. that your much better off getting a single degree then doing a Dip Ed

double degrees are splendid! finish it all now and THEN go and work. id rather get a b ed/b arts NOW then do a b arts now and do a dip ed later. like i said a b ed is better than a dip ed. but i think i'll transfer next yr anyway, so i dunno.

Yeah. With me I have 4 years in my first course then another two on top of that to do the the Teaching qualification! SIX YEARS! Then again, compared to some other courses that's nothing.

Re: BEd/BTeach/DipEd/MTeach - one of the art teachers who is my old year adviser at school did his first degree then went back and did a Dip Ed... might be simplest (shortest and cheapest!) doing it that way if one isn't doing a combined course. But from what I have seen the actual postgrad Teaching degree that Syd's offering is a course that is specialised and tailored to the curriculum area in which you are qualified, with units for it etc.
