I was curious about the aforementioned question? Since English is highly subjective, what actually constitutes not only a Band 6 Short Story for Belonging, but a full marker creative? The criteria on my school's creative assessment is ambiguous, noting that it must be "perceptive".

Does the idea have to be original, considering that almost every idea, if not all have been used or is cliched to an extent. I was reading previous threads, they said that it's pretty much how it's written which wins you over marks and essentially, a Band 6 response. Is it really the execution which matters and the use of techniques to send over a message, is that all true?

My school fails to train students when it comes to creatives and especially short stories. I believe I'm not too shabby myself and I think my idea (Crucible inspired) is not that cliched and I believe my execution of it was not entirely repulsive. I'm just very curious.

Cheers.

It's awfully subjective, but personally I reckon it'd have to incorporate the following:
- descriptive language/artistic flair
- interesting and perhaps unconventional writing style
- unique conceptual exploration of belonging
- emphasis on the internal aspect of belonging (i.e. what it means to the individual)
- more so symbolic/metaphoric than literal perhaps
- simple storyline involving limited but well-developed characters

These are pretty good incorporations.
