I've applied for a Bachelor of Nanotechnology at UTS, it needs a 75.5 but im hoping for a 90+ to reflect the effort i've put in this year

anyway, does anyone know where the list of the rank is? I got it once, and my school is not listed, anyway...my school is in jakarta and it's the sister school of St. Catherine n of Scots college...could it be possible that my school is ranked together with them? or... anyone has the idea?

I'm pretty confident I can get at least 98. That's enough to get in according to the dean of the Law faculty at Usyd. If not, then I'll go to UNSW which has a comparably good course.

I congradulate you on being able to excercise your *Cough* Visa Given *Cough* Democratic right to bypass the merit system... it is supremely democratic! Arts... "A dead end degree" by some people here. Heres a thought... I don't want a highly payed job, I'm sick of HSC competitive schooling that negates rather then enlightens education and Im sick of science and its answers for everything for now(I do remain a humanist, albeit an ignorant one). What possible problem can their be with someone getting an education for the sole purpose of learning more about the world around them even if they don't earn 100k. Does a high paying job make you happy sikeveo. For me, a high paying job would probably mean, the HSC every day of my life for like 20 years, you need to be sick, greedy or stupid to want that ever again. By the way if you enjoy this topic, I'll quickly give a wrap to the "Pedagogy of the Oppressed" Student summer session run by students for students at UOW to discuss what makes education valuable and how modern ideas about success (marks, etc.... ) negate ancient understandings of education and being educated.... pretty cool, kicks off in november, pm if your interested.

Hmm... I do think that it is completely inappropriate to have racist and derogatory comments dished out to others, based on your inadequacies and jealousy.

For one thing, I am a born and raised Australian citizen and my parents happened to offer to pay if I don't obtain the necessary mark. I am not some foreign immigrant (and nor should anyone be penalised for being one), and I actually plan to transfer to a commonwealth place if I sustain consistently high marks at university.

Unfortunately, it is not my fault that the UAI for Combined Law is so ridiculously high that few people have the opportunity to enter. But since I've been given that opportunity by my parents, I am not going to forsake it due to some moral crusader ranting on about being an immigrant or some such.

Sorry guys, when I said Visa, you thought i meant Visa as in immigration, I was implying the credit card, I have no problem with international students, they are really subsidising our education. What I do have a problem with is Australian Citizens paying for university and jumping the merit system. Its not an economic issue this one. Sure, they make unis more viable, but its the capitulation of the egalitarian society that a lot of people think australia is. You want to get the most prestigious law degree in australia, work your ass off and get 99.6, otherwise, come to school with the plebs...

I really dont think humanism has application in the philosphical question of paying or not paying. That was a remark in relation to my dissatisfaction with science, what I was trying to convey is that even though im a bit dissatisfied with science, my view on the question of God is most likely humanist. This had application for ppl who read this thread who might have thought they evangelised someone on BOS left... didnt happen.

Education has to be competitive, becasue whats the point in EVERYONE having degrees in something-or-other that are impractical and also the government can afford to support everyone through higher education.

Im sorry, your wrong, indoctrinated or maybe we can agree to disagree. Competitive education is a new idea. Education is a gift, that cant be appreciated in a fully competitive context. All you have to do is go to the UAI threads and see... no one cares about; breakthroughs in polymerisation (Chem); the emergance of Trotskyism (Modern); The amazing mathematics that makes our world, its always, rank... "oh thats shit" "im not happy" "im stoked" test "ohh im happy with that" "I think i performed well" blah blah blah.... Our world is not egocentric, I will sway from that

yeah we can aggree to disagree... i was feeling arguementative this morning but have since come to terms with the wonders of not being a hsc student anymore and having no greater purpose than to walk around my house in my underwear.

i find it intriguing tho in this day and age (terrorism, wars etc) that you can still be so sure in the quality of the human spirit to be good and pure under all of that. Surely its easier to just beleive that that were not incontrol of humanity. lessens the blame i think

Its kinda funny, coz as youve noticed.... im not a Young Liberal... yet in some instance, individual responsibility is like heeps important to me yet it is like a word often used as an excuse to kick ppl off the dole etc.... If everyone was responsible, they would get their asses over to the demonstrations and reflect the real public opinion about the war. Lol... yeh i gave myself away... i havent quite decided.... but yeh Im gonna do arts/science with politics/philosophy, one of them as arts major and maths as a science major.... I get heeps of shit from people at my school who are lie dude, you should do like Commerce and get a scholarship and all this shit but im just not interested ay... I think im gonna do my diped and teach, but probably in the public system... i feel like im obligated to support it and stuff

im planning on doing a Bach. of Sports Management/ Bach. of Tourism Management double @ University of Canberra...its a new course but the UAI will probably b around 75-80 - going off the UAI's 4 the straight degrees...

other choice is Architecture @ UNSW .. 83 UAI cut-off ..

Um Architecture @ UNSW has a 90 UAI cut-off (2005)...so maybe ur thinking Interior Architecture...

As for me I'm looking into Architecture/Arts @ UNSW or Architecture at USYD

You want to get the most prestigious law degree in australia, work your ass off and get 99.6, otherwise, come to school with the plebs...

Private students also subsidise your education.
Private students pay their way through uni, leaving more money for the other students. They also do not take up spaces (tho there may be some lag time).

I personally do feel that too much emphasis is put on rank etc, through inadequate testing systems. But in class, everyone knows who the real passionate people are, and the skills that they possess, even if they don't score hd's on every test.
