I was wondering what degree or area of science I would study to get into human genetic engineering? The type that deals with curing genetic disease and stuff, all I can find is biotechnology which has a vauge and general description.

Thankyou. :spin:

i'd say biomedical engineering.

look up the uni's that offer biomed engineering and compare their course structures, genetics would be a sub-branch of it, so im sure it'll be covered.

I'd say go for B Science majoring in genetics. There is not much "engineering" in genetic engineering.

Biomedical engineering is more specialised for creating artificial limbs and heart valves etc.

for genetic engineering, you should be looking at a biotechnology degree. But only for plant, pharm., medical and food. not to sure for human genetics though.

I'd say biotech, then major in molecular biology. From there you'll want to gain research experience or do your honours on a project that is looking at curing a genetic disease, or attempting to create diagnostics to identify individuals carrying the trait for the disease.

Biochemistry, Biotechnology , Molecular Biology are words that come to mind....follow the url in my signature to see which Aussie Uni offers these courses

Biomedical Engineering is not connected to genetic Engineering. BioMed is about developing electronic / mechanical instruments and gadget for th body Eg. PaceMaker, artifical ear, artificial eye, limbs ( prostecthetics), ECG machine
