Our creative writing task involved writing a "funny anecdote" on change which saved a guy's business from going broke. It came as a bit of a shock cos when you're in the middle of an exam, humour's not exactly the frame of mind you're in.

Our comprehension questions were on a source about "woolloomoolloo"... do you know what it's like writing that word 10 times over when you're already tight for time? ;)

for our creative question for change, we had to write a letter to a newborn baby from a parent, talking about the changes in our lives. everyone thought it was ridiculous and wrote very little considering it was a 15 mark q.

and the funniest comment i heard about it was also the most strangely true...how are they meant to evaluate whether we've used appropriate language for the audience??? it's not like babies can read, dammit!

and i'm done with the venting now:)

alright,
i just got back from my english half yearly
wasn't too bad

but we had to write a feature article,
you're an online teen magazine writer/author
and you had to write about teenage issues,
they gave you a list such as:

economy
environment
family
relationships
self-image, etc

and you integrated the lot into a huge feature article,
not too bad, all in all
it was fairly straight forward, but i still managed to muck it up :p

i'll use this change to whine about my AOS half yearly
3 parts, reading 5% (simple enough, comprehension)
writing 5% (the feature article,)
and the prepared essay/response on:
3 skrzynecki poems, 1 from the stimulus booklet and 2 related texts (different mediums),

all this in 2 hrs, approx 40 minutes each.
time management is crucial to your success,
THEN, if that wasn't enough,
we had another 45 mins to write about last year's work,
having to deliver a speech to a group of young adults i think it was, on how the 'truth is never pure and is rarely simple'
or something like that :)

i fudged my way through it since it was hard enough memorising 3 poems, techniques, then memorising a couple of lines from sky high, techniques for that, along with a film, film techniques, and a newspaper article.

ahh... bring back the good old days when you had to remember 1 text and 1 or 2 themes! :D

My half yearly was exactly the same!
What a coincidence!

Our writing task was a feature article on change in adolesence. What a small world it is!

the good old days as you call them have well and truly gone!

And as a teacher (of Huy) no less, I dont envy your stress... be assures that we stress about it just as much as you do. And just remember you spent 2 hours sitting a paper. Iwill now spend about 4 days of my holidays marking them!

(Ill go and crawl under my rock now :)

(i can't believe i said that with a straight face!)

as an aside, i think joseph/andrew should come out of the shadows and speak up on the board :)

Apart from first person, collective first person and tone, what other techniques could one talk about when discussing a speech.

(We had to do this in our paper one. We had Natasha Stott Despoja's maiden speech and was asked how she communicates her vision of change)

What techniques represented the vision of change?

I'm sure I remember seeing the word 'represented' in there somewhere, or am I thinking of the visual text?

Oh yeah, don't worry about that one.
It doesn't go towards your assessment mark.
That was very sneaky in having to collect Paper 1 after 2 hours!
I had to sit there for 10 minutes while they were collected, losing my train of thought on the Frontline essay (I had started before time was up).

haha, no i don't have the exam covered.
i had to cram 3 texts in under 10 minutes, including a conclusion

so the last 2 pages of my essay (of which there were 6 :D ) were fairly rushed and illegible -- I THINK!

im sure they could read it,
but fingers crossed, we'll know when the results come back :)

About your signature, HOMOPHOBIC ... hahaha!! "Homer: they have the internet on computers now??"
