What is 'Dux'?? and how does it it work?? (1 Viewer)

Hey guys .

Im wondering what the term 'Dux' means ???? i know its something based on coming 1st in all your subjects but is it for your internal ranks or hsc marks???

Yeh, pretty much. Each school has its own different way of working out the dux. At my school, the person who got the highest ATAR was dux.

the dux at a school is the person who comes first academically.
at my skool it is presented based on internals.
some other schools present it after hsc results come out.

but the general meaning of dux is same at every skool

At my school we have two different type of duxes.
Dux of year 12: Presented at the graduation ceremony before the HSC exams. Based on the student who gets the most 'firsts, seconds and thirds'
Dux of the HSC: Presented to the student with the best HSC marks.

Dux of the School is usually based on whoever gets the highest ATAR and they get a very small prize at my old school. I's basically just a way to say you did well in school

Our school has a predicted dux on graduation and then the actual dux on presentation day which is in the year after.

I think our Dux is based on internal ranks, because if it was based on ATAR that would mean 3 people would all get Dux.

Person with the highest ATAR. Their name is painted on a board of old Duxes, and I think they get a small gift. They also get an entire page dedicated to their dux speech, their results, and photos of them and their family in the yearbook.
