Our life's purpose? To serve to evolution, in hindsight individuality and happiness fun love is totally irrelevant if history shows anything we all have one thing in common evolution it all started at the big bang those micro-organisms served there purpose to make me what i am today and to make you and every thing on this earth.

Religion; If you believe in any religion i feel bad for you and hope you grow up one day it is clearly a ploy from the government in which to secure civilization and to make great profit. the 10commandments are just early forms of law i mean come on don't steal , don't kill all the commandments are things that ruin society and affect the people with the money.

In saying this i do understand peoples need for security in life therefore they latch on to hope/ religion , i on the other hand latch on to realism.

Grow up :)

Once you begin to analyze the world we live in, and specificially the place we have within that world, we can see how insignificant we are and no matter what 1, or al humans do our actions are ultimately insignificant.

If you are ( by societys terms ) a 'failure' a 'success' etc it ultimately means nothing, if you are a 'failure ' little will be expected of you and your name swiftly forgotten. If you are a 'success ' you will be known with facts about you intact for most of a century if you are quite famous for your field, and if you are a major military, political or philospophical or religious figure possibly hundreds at best. Yet the quality of the information on such people will be corrupted and they wil be known for things they didn't do and the things they did do may very well not be known at all.

In any case our world will cleanse itself through ice caps melting and world flooding etc because it is a natural eventuality, all our history will be destroyed and thus equivalate to nothing anyway. Even if our planet survives the chance of inteligent life suriving is slim and even so we may die from a solar flare, or possibly our sun explodes taking our galaxy with it and its gone anyway.

Think away from that and look merely at politics and religion, both used to control our lives without us even knowing.

Politics is the most obvious of the two, used by making laws or simple tyrany over the people ensuring that they cannot do anything but the rulers bidding or live by the law of the politicans which was initially decided by monarch's and most recently Democratically elected bodies ( another story there)

Religion is the more subtle form of controlling peoples lives, through religion the clergy themselves, or as with the church of england, through the Government/politics as well.

Religion is merely a way to control the people by exploiting their need for a greater cause or a purpose, they lack meaning to their worthless lives thus they worship something that they have no proof of its existence and they ignorantly follow that.

A lie builds around peoples stupidity and lack of reason, and it becomes professional and a business and surivives for thousands of years throughout different forms without people even realising it.

I felt I needed to say that for some reason, basicly I believe that there is, indeed no purpose to our lives and is almost impossible to have one.

Yet to satisfty our stupid desires we work,travel,pray/worship,make money, smoke, drink, take drugs etc to try and fulfill ourselves or forget what we know about our uselessness.

Religion is merely an outdated form of control over a people through which the government, or the clergy of that said religion has complete power over those people, this is even true today just to a lesser extent.

It seems that people just need somethign to believe in and that's why religion is still thriving..

I guess in the end it all comes down to what you believe. Do you believe there is a god? A higher entity?
I do not believe in a higher entity. But if someone were to show me proof/evidence that there was a higher entity, I would happily change my point of view.

Our frontal lobes are too big.

See that is the problem with being a pattern-seeking mammalian. The majority of our species don't know when to stop making horribly irrational inductions. Go read Hume.

I would also move far away from the idea that our universe shows any element of a divine plan. Given that in our own solar system, the sun will implode in the about 5 billion years destroying all known life. If by any chance our species (which will be in an evolved formed) still lives, that will quickly end.

But I'm sure it will all be over much quicker then that...

I think Nietzsche put it subtly-

"Once upon a time, in some out of the way corner of that universe which is dispersed into numberless twinkling solar systems, there was a star upon which clever beasts invented knowing. That was the most arrogant and mendacious minute of "world history," but nevertheless, it was only a minute. After nature had drawn a few breaths, the star cooled and congealed, and the clever beasts had to die. One might invent such a fable, and yet he still would not have adequately illustrated how miserable, how shadowy and transient, how aimless and arbitrary the human intellect looks within nature. There were eternities during which it did not exist. And when it is all over with the human intellect, nothing will have happened. "

Given the vicious struggle for life that we readily observe in nature, the constant extinction of species, the sufferings of all species through disease, the tumultuous and dynamic behaviour of the Earth (and the disasters that follow), the constant fluctuations of subatomic particles and most importantly the impending doom of our solar system, I observe little intended design.

If in fact a designer did exist, even with the mere intellect that I've been given by his right hand, I have little trouble concluding that 'they' are a lazy architect. A sloppy, nonsensical, malicious and needless to say, capricious plan indeed.

Even granting this designer's existence (which is ultimately futile), the original question of "life's purpose" remains unanswered. Ultimately, it is an overwhelming stupid question to ask if you’re trying to convince someone of god's existence. It leads you still not knowing the designers purpose. Now you have simply complicated the situation unnecessarily. Hello Ockham.

A serious problem I have with Islam is how meticulous and narrow it is. You aren't allowed to have 5 wives, instead you can have 4. You must face West when you pray. You must pray five times a day. You must visit Mecca once in your life. These pedantic requests are either designed by a really petty God, or by a human being, Mohammed off a whim really.
Sorry but get your facts right. I appreciate your minimal knowledge of the religion, but "You must visit Mecca once in your life" isn't right. Islam says you must do it if only you are financially stable. i.e. those poor people in countries of Africa don't have enough money for a week's living, let alone a ticket to Saudi Arabia. In such cases, Islam doesn't force demands upon the poor.

Yet, if your rich ... rich enough to do all worldly things in countries like Australia, then visiting Mecca is an obligation.

I don't think it is the most constructive thing to search for fundamental truthes that unite as all. We really are the same as every other living creature in almost every sense; It is just that our ability to reason encourages us to rationalise our experiences and life. We are all searching for this answer that exists in the universe when what we actually have to realise that the question is human made, and cannot be found anywhere. There really is nothing to be asked for the multitude of answers that we are creating. And there is great beauty in that. There is great beauty in the existence of life in its nothingness. And we musn't attempt to create purposes for the entirety of life because it ultimately exists for the sake of life. It is more important to create meanings that are important to the course of our personal lives.

hmmm sorry about this answer. it certainly didn't come out right! :)
