So if someone was really good at english and decided to take up standard just so they could 'ace' it... would they be able to get say at 99.95 ATAR? Hypothetically like, a person capable of ext 2 english did standard got 100 HSC mark???
... not that this would happen but..?
I think it is almost unheard of someone getting 99.95 with standard english..
if your good at english you do advanced.. standard aligns horridly.

Same here. Not to sound stuck up or anything, but I got an Atar of 94 with HSC Marks of;

Adv.English: 94
Ext.1 English: 44/50
Biology: 89
Senior Science: 96
Modern History: 86
Japanese: 84

And these marks just go to show, if you screw up a couple assessment tasks, it isn't too big of a deal. For Modern History, I always got full marks for the assessments, but for the actual Half-Yearly and Trial which weigh more, i got 69% and 55% respectively... Ended up getting an Exam Mark of 86 by some divine intervention/miracle =P
nice eng and senior science marks.
96 in snr science = state rank?

~ and that's not necessarily true.. it really depends what your aiming for. If your aiming for 98/99+ you don't really want to screw up any assessment tasks.. if your goal is a 95 and below, you have that room. Getting a high 98/99 ATAR is much, much harder then getting a mid 95, as that's when each of your units has to be of a high level (b6).

I do recall one year where a state rank in Standard English was a mark of 93. So, getting 100 in standard English - no. (tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny....x a big number chance). I think it's a 0.08% band 6 rate in Standard English?

It changes every year. I think like 4 years ago no people got band 6 in standard. It just depends how smart the standard English kids are compared the advanced ones

Haha no unfortunately, didn't get a state rank for Senior Science. I was actually really surprised with my results all up...my thought was that I "should be able to get a 74 ATAR" so I could get into my first preference. Thats because I always under-estimate myself, and always over-estimate exams/assessments though =P

And yeah you're right in that sense; if you're aiming for an ATAR of say 97-98+, you really dont want to stuff up your assessments. You'd probably have a bit of wriggle-room with one or two assessments, especially if they're only low-weighing ones.

And just as a pointer, if you do incredibly bad [by whatever your standards are], dont just take your mark into consideration when you're beating yourself up "screwing up your HSC"
...I did that for Modern History when I got 69% in the half yearlies...considering 3/4 of the year actually FAILED this exam, with the highest being 85% and the second highest being something 78-ish %, 69% wasnt actually THAT bad of a mark at all in the big picture.
