Ok here we go.

HECS is the name of the scheme where the government pays a subsidised amount of your uni fees.

HECS HELP is the name of the loan you take out to pay your HECS fees, UNLESS you are paying for your HECS fees up-front in which case you dont need HECS HELP.

If you are not an Australian Citizen you cannot pay your HECS fees through a loan from the government (HECS-HELP) and thus you must pay your HECS fees up-front.

Yeah yeah.

Just one thing, if you want to pay upfront sometimes but not other times etc... do you know how this works?
Nope, no idea. I would like to know though. I dont want to be in $45,000 debt by the end of my degree...

You can pay it off in a year or two afterwards. Living cheaply is the key ^^

also re: hecs help loan. they take the money out of your tax when you earn 36k etc. is that additional tax on top of the tax u normally have to pay? its not like the normal tax u pay is diverted for paying off the loan ?

HECS HELP is for full fee paying ppl.
Absolute bollocks. Read your HECS booklet properly. HECS-HELP is a loan you get to pay for your HECS uni fees.

Frankly, full fee paying students shouldn't get any additional help, IMO. It's bad enough they paid to get into their courses. Totally un-meritocritous. Pathetic.
