Until when do we have to confirm our preferences?
If I didn't remember wrongly, 5th January... (but don't count on my memory)

Its officially out "From 18th January e-released then by mail from 19th January" So that's the time when we know whether this year's cutting marks have appreciated or depreciated for your chosen course in a way :)

for com lib? dont think anyone would know exactly cos it's fairly unpredictable

i remember being in despair cos it rose in 2003 or 2002 and i had a 0.4 gap. it remained steady for 2004 though surprisingly

I expect cut-offs to rise, though. 12% of candidates got uais of above 90 this year!

I actually dont get the UAI calculation this year.
The HSC marks were so damn high for most! I mean, most people got above 80 for everything. However, the sam 04 uai seems to be lower than the 05 uai (when it should be the other way)

A question: how long do we have to respond to offers? When must we respond by? Couldn't find anything on the UAC site, except that it hinted that its different for different unis. So does anyone know typically when responses must be made?

for usyd, a response means u go up to the uni about 3-4 days later and enrol in person. there is no online acceptance thing though i think many other unis have the online acceptance thing and u click on something right away when u recieve your offer to say you accept it. I'm vague on the 2nd one cos i only remember what my friend did to accept her UTS course. I was too busy jumping about in excitement over acceptance into my degree lol :p

In person? Thats a bit dumb. What about country people? Not that I've applied to usyd anyway. So, in general you have only a few days to respond?
