When can Auto license drive Manual cars without test? (1 Viewer)

Just wondering if I have to wait until Full License before I can drive Manual withotu having to resit a driving test.

Also... what about clutchless manuals? Can auto ppl drive them?

I was under the impression you only needed green P's to drive a manual. I was thinking of paying for a professional driving lesson for manual just to practice/try it out.

Aren't you talking about sequential shifting?

Nah I'm pretty sure you have to have your full licence for some length of time before you are able to drive a manual. I'm almost positive that you can't switch to manual if you are on your green P's.

its Greens. Ive tought a few friends manual once they hit greens [and iam only on greens myself] it looks really dodgy when a green drivers really wierd, overevs, stalls and so on with a car full of drunk mates, but its perfectly legal.

Its a matter of opinion really... although the mechanics itself are different yes (instead of manually releasing the clutch etc... the car does it), realistically you are 'manually' changing gears so who cares (just less input, but still changing gears phsyically), its a manual!

And to provide some clarity with these terms, there are such things as sequential manuals where there is a clutch, but you can only changing up to the next gear... these sequentials are manual in every sense. While a clutchless manual is regarded as a auto (Despite having the word 'manual' in its name). Just thought Id add this, sequential is different from clutchless manual etc ;

As for the driving a manual, Im prity sure its on your greens.

Maybe you should have read what I wrote before

Sequential manual : A manual transmission with a clutch pedal... the difference is you can only change up or down to the next gear = No you cannot drive this on your red P's

Clutchless Manual : This is prity much an automatic transmission, in that the clutch is automatically released etc... and you push the gear stick back or forward to change gears... these are referred to as semi-auto = You can drive

Maybe your getting your terms mixed up, as car manufacterers market sequential auto instead of semi-auto... but yeah, 'sequential shift' as they call it and sequential manual are DIFFERENT

lol what the fuck is a sequential manual? I can bruteforce my dads beetle from 4th to 2nd (its a new one, and i mean when im slowing down at a light or something).

Bottom line: If it has a clutch you can go from any gear to any other gear (though most likely you will stall), and you can't switch from auto to manual (with a physical clutch pedal to the left of the brake) without resitting a test til you've held a full (unrestricted) license for 3 years. Cant even switch on the green p's, seeing as part of being able to switch is seeing that you can start/stop without stalling and shift properly, meaning its either on the red p's (resit) or full license for 3 years.

the best analogy i can think of would be training wheels on a bike? That tiptronic stuff is classified as automatic and not manual, REAL manuals being the ones with a pedal to the left of hte brake

My friend did his P1s in auto... however, he also bought a new car that was manual. He's driven it around and gotten caught, and given fines for driving a manual on an auto P1 licence.

Since then, he's gotten his P2s and he's gotten pulled over and they have said nothing about him driving manual because he is allowed.

It even says so in the restrictions on your licence.

I did my P1s in auto... and there used to be a condition "A" - Prov driver auto veh only.
My P2s dont say that, so I am allowed to drive a manual.

Funny how a couple of years later technology changes and there are a variety of options whether it be the automated manuals (e.g. Proton) as well as dual clutch transmissions.

Thats why you should just learn in a manual car, and go for the test in the manual and are permitted to drive both....that way you dont have to waste more time and money relearning....

Having said that, my driving instructor said she's had a few older people who have had their auto's for years and for work reasons they need to get a manual licence. these people are VERY experienced on the road and so it doesnt take them as long as younger drivers to master it...
