When do you think the 2 unit hsc mathematics papers starts to get a bit hard or tricky, where you must also use your common sense instead of using just memorized formulas and theories

For me, it'll be from 8 onwards it but thats from 1989-1998 papers haven't checked other papers yet:haha:

You will be surprised how so many people around the state answer so well for q 9 and 10 but make a stupid mistake before that.

2008 HSC shows basically that.

There was one question about series and sequence and that question basically caught many people by surprise. While they answered q 9 and 10 quite well, they got that question wrong making a huge loss in terms of aligned hsc marks.

Yes, it's true that Q9 - 10 of 2 unit maths are generally tricky and hard but it is also important to be wary for the earlier questions as you can get some wrong - i think you are more vulnerable to making mistakes in earlier questions because you have this established mindset that they are easy - hence feeling the need to do them quickly.

When I did my 2 unit paper last year as an accelerant, I was more worried about my performance from 1-6 than my answers from q9-10 because for q9-10 you can general know whether you are right or not because some of them are "prove" questions and easily seen if you are right or not.

I doubt 1-2 raw marks have incurred 1-2 aligned marks.

If I assume that 120/120 = 100 aligned which is probably true, 98 aligned would be about 115-117.

I personally know some people who reckon they got about 118 on the paper (they lost 2 marks somewhere definitely) and they were ranked third at their own schools. They ended up with equal state ranks with 99 aligned respecitvely I think (About 18th or thereabout). So 99 aligned is about 118-119 or thereabout I assume. And 98 should be little bit lower like 115-117 methinks.

EDIT: Remember 1% of the entire candidature got 49/50 = 98 aligned. From that we can rightly assume that 115+ is a good cut-off for that mark.

i know a 99 99 was a state rank
so i think that 120=100 119=99 117-118=98 115-116=97
and that question was more than 1-2 raw marks anyway...
but thats just my guess, dont really have any solid evidence

Nope 99 was not a state rank, at least not for everyone. I know coupe who didn't get state rank with 99 despite scoring 99 and 99 internall and externally.

So 99 didn't guarantee you a state rank. That proves that 119 =/= 99 alone basically, rather it's more like 118-119 = 99 at least.

If you do 4 unit, do you sit the 2 unit exam paper (as you are only enrolled in Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics Extension 2)?

Thanks. :)
only 3u and 4u in the HSC examination but your school may ask you to sit for 2unit trial and assessment tasks

I do not sit the 2unit HSC paper, but I do however, had to sit the first 2unit assessment task in case I 'dropped' 4unit - but that's just my school.
