You're missing a key point here: a world without nuclear weapons is worse than a world with nuclear weapons spread between various competing powers.

In the first world, eventually somebody will invent them, and then you've got nukes in the hands of a single power. In the second world, you've got an uneasy truce because of the concept of mutually assured destruction.

Lesser of two evils my friend.
You see this would all be resolved if there were no "countries" competing.
One, united, socialist, world would be much better.

He has a point... sorta.... though its inevitable that unsafe people are going to get their hands on a nuke (george w bush, lol. but seriously), then they could set off a misunderstanding etc etc....
On a related topic, anyone seen On the Beach? That movie made me consider the evilness of nukes for the first time.

Also jews = America = everywhere and in your face
Japan = isolation = Olympics takes the spotlight?
And yeah, China suffered many more civilian deaths.
nearly 6 million jews died, thats everyone you know, your whole family, friends, acquaintances and every person you have ever walked past in your life, thats your whole city wiped off the face of the earth, and then some.

then 20million chinese died, mostly attributed to japan, thats everyone in australia, gone.
and 26.6 million russians died, most of them civilians...its hard to wrap your mind around these numbers.

They kind of make 150 000 look puny in comparasion huh? and an invasion of japan, one of the most heavily fortified areas of land in the world would have resulted in hundreds of thousands of american soldiers dying, that doesnt take into account japanese forces and the fact that japan is densely populated, so thats another couple of hundred thousand civilian casualties as collateral, bombs, artillery shelling, fighting in the streets, it would have been like the civilian casualties in the iraq war[i forget the estimate but i remember 600 000 being thrown around somewhere], maybe worse because it is a much smaller country with a larger population.

Two cities were bombed which ended the war immediately, instead of months and months of traditional fighting. War is never pretty, so lets not try and hold the moral high ground when we didn't live in that time, it wasn't your friends or yourself fighting and dying to a brutal and barbaric enemy.

And I fully support the dropping of any further nuclear bombs on Japan until they recognise how fucked up what they did actually was, let alone bombings in 1945.
That's stupid. Since when did a conservative government's decision to falsify history textbooks and deny involvement in civilian killings justify the killing of thousands of innocent people?

You have every right to throw shit at the Japanese government, but as we know - the actions and opinions of a government do not accurately reflect the view of every person in that country.

He never claimed it was representative of every person in the country.
He did indirectly. You can't "drop further nuclear bombs on Japan" without killing innocent, common people whose opinions about the Japanese government and its decisions we have no idea about.

its soo sad ..... its something the western media hardly touches on because it will give us bad light.... the west sympathies so much on the holocaust as if it was the worst thing to happen in history.... IMO this is equally worse.

just thinking about it disgusts me... I mean to what level do you have to stoop to drop a nuclear warhead on such a populated city. So many innocents losing their lives... it's absolutely mind boggling that they didn't even hesitate before doing it. but thats for another day.

RIP for all those died.

edit: my second paragraph was out of ignorance. lol

You know whenever some of these hippies talk about how Hiroshima, Tokyo, Berlin, Dresden etc was the worst crime. I want them to google the cities Stalingrad, Warsaw, Chongqing, Manila, London, Kiev, Minsk etc in 45'.

Many of these cities thanks to their resistance escaped annihilation.

I think it's time everyone watched Dr. Strangelove again.

In all seriousness, however, I'm not surprised there wasn't a big hooplah about it. Japan certainly wouldn't want it, given the tremendous loss of face it would represent.

And as other people have said, it was a tragedy, but a necessary one. And I've been to the memorials in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Nah man. Think about it. What does the Middle East have to offer the world?
Even if they pull their shit together, consider this;
- Theyre not attractive. We can't steal their genetic make up and create a super cute human race
- dress sense is up to shit. NYC Fashion Week sure as shit doesn't have a market for multicoloured turbans
- Their food is horrible. Name one edible dish from the Middle East
- Nobody wants to learn their language. It's not in vogue like French or Italian
- It's hot

But the Second Sino Jap war was not WW2...

Yes it was.

Just not as well known compared to say the western front in the ETO.
