If we couldn't then dropping trade barriers wouldn't bring about such a situation.

I suggest we drop the ridiculous subsidies given to many of our farming industries. Let the market sort it out.

Also, find ways to take into account the real cost of unsustainable farming practices that continue to mine the landscape, permanently destroying soils and waterways. Or idk, government intervention might be necessary.

I respect farmers on an individual philosophical level, but the industry has a terrible history as environmental managers of this country. In parts of the country, QLD etc.. they're not changing quickly enough, pretending salinity and other problems will never occur there. There are some people doing impressive work to reform the industry, but in many ways the farming industry still acts in a short-sighted manner, that is terribly destructive.

I like the Greens party and my parents have been voting Greens due a the massive disenchantment with Labor and their union but I can see why everyone thinks they are pathetic.

They have a serious lack of leadership. Bob Brown's a nice guy, but he's a complete pushover. Nobody in the party has the strength and charisma of people such as Malcolm Turnbull, Joe Hockey or Julia Gillard to really stand up and not compromise. Probably due to their lack of ex-lawyers and people in big industry.

Because of this most people see them as a fringe party focused on minor agendas, because nobody really has a clue what they stand for.

I think you'll find they've been a lot less willing than the democrats were to negotiate and work with the major parties. Arguably a weakness, they certainly don't compromise their ethics in the senate.

I don't think Brown is a pushover by any means. Look at his actions re:when bush visited back in the day and he refused to cowtow to the foreign leader.

I remember a few years ago (2004 federal election iirc) the Liberal party issued a smear pamphlet campaign distributing patently untrue proganda about the greens, saying such things as the greens in power would try to make it mandatory to eat less meat, would enforce the riding of bicycles, would legalise drugs etc...

All bullshit of course.

Bob Brown held a press conference where he passionately denounced the shamefull politics of fear, lies and ignorance played by the liberal party.

The only place I read about it was in a highly critical SMH opinion piece which questioned why the liberal parties actions, and browns response had received no mainstream media coverage.

I don't know if it's the medias fault, or if the greens just have terrible PR, but somethings fucked up.

yeah the greens and Bob Brown and certainly not a 'pushover'.

It is the american style mainstream commercial media which portrays them as such.

that and peoples fear of change...

Look at BB's record - openly gay, many protests against things he believes in, a passionate and active conservationist, organising and mobilising the countries moral pointers rather than mobilising peoples fear of their own 'hip pocket' being disadvantaged, plus he is the leader of the greens and having to take all of the BS that people and the media put out about you.

He certainly has balls and he is no politician in the style of Rudd or Turnbull, he thinks and he acts on what he believes rather than what will win votes or will make more money for those that are already rich.

If there were more people like that in politics the country would be much better off in a spiritual and moral way.

On the upside, the Greens have been experiencing steady, linear growth.

Election Results
Senate - National

1996: 2.4%
1998: 2.7%
2001: 4.9%
2004: 7.7%
2007: 9.0%

They gain from the dead Democrats party, a burgeoning centrist youth, and ALP's Socialist Left members sick of being overwhelmed by Labour Right members.

and I hope that K Rudd takes note of the young socialist voters and their increasing dissatisfaction or he may find himself being in coalition with the greens...

Gotta love the democrats... lol

People believe that the greens are for the environment but the truth is they're more anti-capitalist than pro-environment.

Their policies and agenda are definitively in line with the Communist parties.

They use the environmentalism as a cover in order to sway young voters. That's the danger the left poses.

For example after the shootings in Finland the greens made an odd statement calling for more gun control even though it has nothing to do with the environment. The same can be said about their interference in immigration and other issues not pertaining to their supposed platform.

You don't know what communism means do you? Are the greens more Keynesian then the two major parties, for sure, are they socialists? they probably border on it, but communist is a completely different kettle of fish.

Democratic socialist. Same as the labor party mostly.

The greens party follow the philosophy that you cannot isolate environmental issues from social and political issues. Implementing radical environmental change will inevitably have impacts on the rest of our society. Thus it is also believed, social and political change is an essential part of creating environmental change. To have a society that truly values environmentalism, you must remove structures that have created inequality and oppression.

I love Greeeeeeeeeeens!

In fact, I think everyone should vote for the greens so we wont have HSC --- because we will fall into civil war pretty soon if Greens gets in power!

In the unlikely event this civil war should eventuate, why would that mean we don't have HSC?

Rofl. Deinfinitely? Word much? in- is the reverse, so de-in-finite would be a double negative.

It's obviously de-finite ie, the opposite of finite. If you want to be a lolnazi, at least be good at it?

Because all the young men would be out dying for their state/region. And all the young women would be working in munitions factories...or being sexually assaulted
