I want to drop 4u, one becuase i don't need it for UNI, i was just doing it to have a go at it, but doing it makes u feel 'big' at school LOL.

I also don't like how much it takes away from my other subs (3 science, engrish rel)

so i'm just wanting to gather your ideas?

it depends how well u r doing in ext1 and ext 2 maths...trust me u must b patient doing 4u some qs will take ages to do and therll b some u cant get out...its different to nething else, u wont b able to answer evrything(except the special few) unlike the other maths courses...
so basically yeh it depends if ur doin well or not, if u r, u shudnt drop it

It should depend more on how much you're enjoying it. If you're enjoying it heaps then you can probably pick up your marks by a fair bit, depending on how much you're willing to work. But then you have to ask yourself if your other subjects will suffer. If you can handle it I think you should keep it and see how you go coz you still have a while to make up your mind.

its not i can't do it, i just don't have the need/want/drive

and doing 6 units of science doesn't exactly help it, i'd rather get my 90+'s in the sciences and maths 1ext... cuz in the end 4u won't get included anyway lol

then its clear u shud drop it then...as soon as u lack the drive u will lack committment, making 4u even harder...maths ext1 is fine...u need time for 4u and all 3 sciences requires a lot of attention

3 sciences don't require immense amounts of attention, you can just do maths papers and leave the sciences to stagnate until a few weeks before exams and still do decent...

hmmm i did the same thing with modern hist and french...but didnt u like neglect one of the sciences, physics or something which reduced the workload?ppl's abilities r different, some ppl cant afford to let things stagnate and then cram, i guess it depends on the individual

m8, u say that 4 unit wont count, if u do half decent at it, it will count 4 sure, from ur subjects, ur english will count, so will ya phys, chem and ya maths (4unit).....sor wont count but i assume ur a catholic perso so u hav 2 do it and and either will ya bio, unless u go shit in maths and heaps gud in bio, but in that case, it will prob be ya 2unit maths not counting or somethin i dunno, anyway, stik wi 4unit, even if u go shit it scales high and it helps ya in ya 3unit, topics like integration, polynomials and parametrics are so easy in 3unit if ya do 4unit....

ME!!! I am taking 3 sciences, ESL, IBS, and Math 4 u I can not drop 3 units of maths, ESL n also IBS, dun wanna drop Chem+Phy...So I left out struggling to choose between Bio n math ext2....

Bio: got a lot of things to be memorized (I hate memorizing), I am good at understanding the concepts, 3rd rank in my bio last year (89%, my phy n chem are way up higher), I love Bio (at least for now), I like dissecting >.< (which is rare...), Lotz of projects (the most task-loads subject in my school), not scale that high, sure can do fine (I guess)

Ext-2: HARD!!! Got a lot of difficulties, after school lesson, not sure can do fine, scale up high, 2nd rank in my math 2u last year (96%) and 5th in my 3u (92%), not that keen of ext2 as of bio

Which one shoul I drop???

Target UAI:96++, if possible 99++

Do you like ext 2? If you don't like a subject, you're less likely to do well, so choose whichever you like the most and feel the most confident with

good to see indos doing 4u maths, and keep it man. you're obviously killing maths and you're in a great position to get a good mark in the hsc. but the most important thing is what do you wanna do in uni?

There's no great point in doing 4U coz it makes you feel "big", coz then you're just cheating yourself when you go into the real world.
However, if you're enjoying it keep it. If, on the other hand, you're lacking the motivation to study for it and/or put the effort in then you're wasting your time no matter how good the scaling is or how good it makes you feel to be doing the highest level of maths.

Chances are that if you lack motivation to do 4U in Yr12 you will also lack motivation in a maths-intensive uni course such as Actuarial or Advanced Maths.

Btw. I'm in a similar position (i.e. deciding whether or not to do 4U), but I'm 60% sure that I'll be taking it through - because I like it.
