Anyways, who's a musician you aspire to? Or at least admire?

Mine are specifically three...

Alicia Keys (my piano hero esp her style)
John Mayer (my guitar hero........ well.... i just wanna marry him thats all)
Hans Zimmer (professionally I want to aspire to about a fraction of what he is)

So who are your heroes?

I'm looking at wanton wanton and Autowah and other such people who participate in music threads like these's direction... you guys are so passionate with your music, I totally respect your taste...

Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale and John Petrucci.

And to BlackFriday, if you could even be 1/1000th as technical as Flo I'd worship the ground you walk on.

Hmmmm lets see:
- Ulrich Roth (this guy makes some of the nicest melodic riffs I have ever heard)
- Al Dimeola (what can I say, totally awesome)
- John Petrucci (I base my guitar playing around him)
- Steve Morse (I have never heard steve hit a note that wasn't clear)
There are so many more in other styles of music (and other instruments for that matter), but I wont bore you all.

thank you very much :)

i dont specifically have a hero/idol

but there are musicians who i admire

freddie mercury - awesome vocals
james hetfield and kirk hammet and jason newsted - james for awesome vocal + rythmic guitar, kirk for his awesome solos and jason for his committment and dedication to music, not lars ulrich 'cause he's a prick!, even though he drums awesome too.!!!
joe satriani - personally out of the G3 tours, i reckon he plays best, he makes a guitar sing

theres other greats like van halen, bruce dickinson, dave mustaine, jimmy page, hendrix...etc.. but none of them appeals to me as much as the 4 guys listed above.

EDIT* oh lets not forget my favourite...chris franklin :)

Way too many come to think of it, it's just too hard to discriminate. Pretty much any drummer who catches my attention, mostly but not exclusively metal/hard rock drummers, though they're probably the ones I'd most like to be able to play like :)

Edit: shit, added some more and wanton's got another that I missed, see, it's too damn hard :/

lars is good but is he THAT good?
I think he definitely deserves a mention, if not for ability then due to inspiration value. I don't think I'd want to be like him in terms of personality, but he's definitely a champ when it comes to drumming, and I guess Metallica played an important role in getting me into good music :)

I admire anyone who has the guts and the talent to perform and do what they love. Music is an art, and as an art, there are many ways to express it. So anyone in any musical genre who has the guts to get out there and get a record deal and do what they love, I have total respect for.
What i dont have respect for is those who sit and critise others, just because they dont have a likeing to that music genre.
i agree with you there, but what is wrong with critcising others? we've all entitled to have our opinions on certain bands/artist.

plus its obvious that people with little or no talent enjoy great commercial success that is clearly undeserved.
