Just wondering how many other people do, plus your circumstances etc - Are you working, if so: full or part time? Are you provided with food etc?

I work about 3-4 days a week (gap year), pay $100 a week rent (for a room which I share with someone else who's also paying $100 a week for it), buy and cook all my own food, travel expenses, clothes, gym fees etc. I do all my own cleaning (bathroom, kitchen etc), and in the rare times I do use the phone (mobile calls etc) I'm expected to pay for it. I'm still only 17, while my 25y/o brother who's a computer programmer makes about 3-4 times as much as me pays $130/week and Mum cooks him dinner.

I'm not here just to have a bitch, but was just curious whether you guys think this is reasonable or OTT??

And just for the record, Mum is not exactly struggling, we own a 5 bedroom house in Mosman, she doesn't need the money. Not that I see anything wrong with paying board, I just think I'm paying a lot for what I'm getting. Any opinions?

25 years old and living with the parents? meh, no comment :D
Your not paying alot for what your getting - its just you didnt scab off your parents for as long as your brother... Whatever reason that is, its up to you.
If I stayed home and worked part-time (next year), I would prob be paying $75 a week board, with free food etc.

My gf pays 250 a week to her parents; but she gets food..

I earn a bit more than my gf...but don't pay board to my parents...i did buy them a new car though...

so i think it really depends on how to show your appreciation doesn't it?

I had to give all my centrelink to mum when i was in high school...about 200 a wk or so, dont know how much i got paid then but it wasnt much. That was forevertyhing, whcih isnt much when you have a family of 5 and the youngest, my sister gets mroe than anyone else..

When I homestayed, i was paying $150-180, whcih includes food and bills and all that sort of stuff.

my parents would never in a million years ask me to pay board.

but i spose cultural backgrounds play a part in it.

i earnt enough this year that my parents lost centrelink benefits (they both work), so I paid centrelink back for them, and now pay the equivalent in board each week plus some more coz i wanted to

plus i buy a lot of food and other consumables for myself

Azn and indian: you can live there for free but they control every aspect of your life and you have no free will

wogs: live at home until they're like 50 but own 2 houses they rent out to bogans

anglos (bogans): if you haven't moved out by 17 then there's something wrong with you

I pay $60 a week, which is bitchin'.

And plus since I cook most of the food I get to buy whatever groceries I want and my parents reimburse me for them.

Having said that, my house isn't exactly anywhere near ANYTHING, and if they charged my much more I probably wouldn't stay.

When i was between places for a few months i paid

$50 a week straight up
$20a week for their net[seen as obviously i was going to be using a good chunk of the downloads
plus random food that i bought whenever i cooked, so like another $20 a week or something

thats still cheaper than what i am paying now, which is $100 a week just for rent, plus own food, bills, petrol etc.

Yep. Wait until your parents spring it on you.

Or you maybe they'll just do what they did to an old school buddy of mine ; take it out of your bank account automatically.
