?? why ??

Even a Physics teacher in our school who is extremely intelligent says that internal mark doesn't really contribute to our final mark in the HSC. It's only about the external mark.

Why ????

Yeah, your actual internal mark doesn't matter. Where it places you in terms of ranking though affects you greatly. So you do need to do well internally.

Because there are a number of teachers who do not understand how the system works - even when it is explained to them they still don't get it - well at least in my experience.

dude r u srsly asking this question halfway through the hsc?

anyways, ur teacher is kind of right, internal marks dont mean anything BUT internal ranks determine what mark you ll get as ur assessment mark, which comprises half of your ur overall hsc mark.

like you could get 70% as your mark in 3 unit at skool and get a rank of 16.
in the actual hsc exam if the 16th highest mark in ur skool is 90, youll get that as ur assessment mark, and whatever u actually get in ur exam will bcom ur exam mark, lets say that is 93. so your overall mark will be (90+93)/2 = 92 (rounded up like they do when calculating ur atar

What? That's wrong.

The BOS use a function mapped to the highest external mark and then use the gaps between ranks to determine the moderated assessment mark.
