Probably not, a mac just can't do the things windows can at the same or better price.

freeze? hah

further evidence you're interfacing the mac with your cock rather than hands.

Macintosh looks good but I have no intention of buying it cause of all the points mentioned before this post. It will never be as good as PC and will always be a niche product :p

Nah our school computers are just heavily retarded. If after the 5 minutes waiting firefox manages to load you have to reconfigure it to the schools proxy and then somehow get it verified by the schools firewall to run. Or some shit. I hate my school. im going to fuck their system up one day not that it needs it tho, just because i dislike the admin/IT teachers, they know little to nothing about computers outside of what they teach.

wow, a fair few mac users out there. I'm planing to get one after they get updated to core2 duos. Not sure if I should get a Macbook pro or an iMac though.

Don't really feel safe carying a $3000 laptop in my bag... But not sure how well my current Dell X200 will work with an iMac, could be annoying changing between OSX and Windows.

Your points were almost all false or irrelevant.

Suffice to say, Apple is more profitable than Windows and increased market share is not its aim.

As for Leopard, I agree entirely but press releases at a Developer's Conference are not the place to announce user features. Expect to see some more features announced as release date comes closer.
Have you seen the new help menu search thingy? soooo cool

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=224553

It immediately highlights the tool you are searching for as you type. Also, when you are searching in safari, it dims all the area of the screen not containing the search term.

Seems an odd statement as a counter to the anti-mac chump, I thought that was what all the mac fans did... :D

Anyway, no, I don't like them and don't think I'd ever buy one. They offer nothing that I need or am interested in.

Please keep the flaming out of this thread or it will be closed.

On topic, I'd never used a mac until a month ago. I now own a Macbook Pro. It *is* true, Macs just work. Every network I've plugged into just works. Perfectly. No problems. Windows is 1000x touchier when I set networks up.

*shrugs*

I prefer Windows because I've used it since I first had a computer, and it is the preferred operating system for me by virtue of:

1) Everything is already installed and configured;
2) All my data is on windows;
3) Desktop computer on my desk more convenient to use because of 1, 2

But weighing up the differences so far, the Mac is most surprisingly very easy to get it to do what you want (from a front end point and click or a back end bash/terminal perspective).

So, I guess while I'm still used to Windows the Mac is pretty damn good and if I had all my programs and data on the laptop, I'd most probably prefer that because of it's front end ease of use combined with the powerful backend (which is good for my uni work)

\edit\ comma use LOL ?

Macs are seriously greater than anything.
I don't want to be in another flame war... but I wud have to agree wit him; When I got my mac.. I've never came across problems in terms of software, I do all my secure items (like banking) with my mac, also I do my graphics design work (which is my hobby and I got sum cash from a client as well...hehe) perfectly far better than windows the colours are well adjusted and with more life, the inbuilt grapher was excellent til I had Derive 6, for this maths assignment I had, i soley used that and got a A+ (28/30.. so happy :p) its very stable.. I kept my mac on for 81 days without any crashes or freezes for a test with 20 programs running...

But windows... It works for the niche programs that macs don't have, I mean it has plennttty of apps.. like for maths, FX trading, Equities and all... It is just that windows is more convenient from the rest... I understand

In perspective of web browsers, I mainly use Firefox coz I'm so familar with it but I use Safari occasionally as well, I've never experienced crashes with ff, however, I have with safari :(

lol and for that "Every person is smart uses macs", well I think thats true, My friend (in yr 12) got 47 for accounting and 48 for physics [raw]... and theres me.. hehe ... but I knoe my cuz from salesian that got high marks methods (graduated, now) but used windows lol..

However, I truly believe that Windows would dominate in a work sense tho, many big financial corps use Windows or unix (or mayb linux tho I don't knoe) but never macs; macs are made for the consumer after-work appeal lol (excluding the Xserves)

So that concludes my long post; I wish everyone the best for the OS and I hope it won't let you down ;)

I use macs all the time, have only ever owned macs since we bought our first computer in 1995, a Apple 5200 power pc perfomer. This was used for 5 years till we bought a imac and its still going stong, had a few issues with age but that is expected. i now own a ibook (g4, 1.33ghz etc) which is absolutely awesome.

just for the sake of it:

Mac Pro's:

# Price: initially this looks high, why would you pay $2500 for a desktop mac when you could buy a pc for $1300?? well its simple to me, it works, you can buy the pc for $1000 less but you have to then buy the software to go with this, then install etc. The warranty period for apple is at times longer which is always a bonus. also the current imacs (under $2500) come standard with built in web-cam, dual layer dvd burner, huge HD etc.. seems like good value to me.

# Reliability: how many people can say that they have had 2 pcs that in total have lasted them 11 years, and no become obsolete? this i suspect would be rare in the pc world. Macs are designed to work basically, yes i realise you cant just pull them apart and add a new processor, video card etc... but this is basically the point... build it right the first time. The lack of third party parts means that the OS can be focused on working at 100% effeciency all the time. The amount of different bits n peices you can buy for a pc means the chance of a problem is higher.

#User-ability (what the heck should i call this instead?): Macs just seem to click, i can take my ibook to uni and it will recognise the wirless networks, printers, scanners etc without me even having to raise an eyelid, i have used pcs and they just dont seem to do this.

Con's:

# lack of aftermarket software, especially games: alot of pc users think this is the be-all and end-all of the pc vs mac issues but this comes back to "do it once, do it right", why make 30 programs to do one job, if you only need one or two ? this allows developers to enhance the abilities of their programs without having to worry about "keeping up with the jone's" with updates etc. i can understand why some people like to play games, most big name games are available on mac yet alot of games aren't, i can handle this, and have had to since i was little, you just live with it. i own a ps2 anyway so i dont care.

#too expensive: see above. i would gladly pay more for a better quality item, then pay less an have to fix it more often

PC's - Pro's

#cheap: the big draw card, you can get them everywhere and you can buy one for peanuts, but as they say, pay peanuts and get monkeys. im sure everyone (pc and mac users) realise you get what you pay for. i wouldnt dare touch a cheap and nasty pc.

# common: pc's are every where. this is important that you know to use windows, so you can cope with using pcs. i have used pcs at school etc since i was a kid and i can just as easily use a pc as mac.

con's

#stability: ok before i get flamed for this is user error let me point out why i think this. i would have to say everytime i use a pc the damn thing decides to shit itself in some way shape or form. Ok this could be just me, or the machine i use but it just seems to happen so often. i VERY RARELY have any problems with my mac, and i use it all the time

Ugly: haha ok this is just an aesthetic thing, but geeze most pcs are ugly... and macs well they just look cool. Enough said on that because when it comes down to it, its how the thing works thats important.

Thats all i can think of, and be bothered of thinking of at the moment.

But yes pcs are good, but i personally think macs are better... they just seem to gel. others may think i wrong, but so be it, be a close minded pc user and never indulge into the mac world, thats fine with me, just dont come and winge to me when you get a virus from looking up porn :p

Ohh one more thing on the ease of use bit... macs just seem to be more logical. Macs save files in what seems "normal" places, where as pc's like to scatter things everywhere. which can be a real bitch to work with.

anyway thats just my 2 cents. i shall now go and bask in the glory of my mac....

by the way, yes i am considering buying a pc, but that is so i can use some rare software for construction that is not out on mac. but trust me i wont be converting or plugging the phone line into the pc, not running the virus risk.
