Well, story is, my friend came over today and used my computer to download some stuff: some songs and microsoft office 2007 off limewire, and some gossip girl episodes off tvfreeload. After she downloaded all this (can't remember what else she dl'd), i shut down my computer, then we went out. After i came back and turned my computer on, i get this:

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm88/ssejychan/orsumdesktop.jpg .

ie. a big black desktop screen of nothingness. When i log on, the desktop/background doesn't load, but My Documents opens up, so i can still access all my programs and internet and everything, but there is nothing on my desktop!!

Does anyone know what may be wrong? Some virus maybe? I did a spybot scan, but it came up with nothing. So, i dunno what's going on. It was working fine before i shut it down.

Please help. Ideas or suggestions would be wonderful.

I'll probably ring up tomorrow and ask what's wrong, if it keeps up like this. But, omg, i just want to know wth happened.

edit: i also have vista, if that makes any difference.

edit: This is what it used to look like: http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm88/ssejychan/myorsumbg.jpg. Like, now, there is no taskbar or anything.

limewire has too many viruses
its faster for downloading singles

torrents rarely have viruses (been using for 4 years and no viruses)

use azureas- it has a search feature (kindda like limewire that uses torrents)

done. no virus. =D

edit: great. I turned on my comp today (this morning) and it comes up with the black screen of death again. I did that explorer.exe thing and it worked, but omg if this will happen everytime i start up. ><

and, i dunno what's what with the CPU memory, but previously when my comp was idle, it was probably only around 5% or less, but now it stays around 20-30% and even goes randomly up to 50%, when the comp's idle. o_O

how many processes do you have?

just format your computer <_<
it's been compromised with viruses, even though you don't find any.

i don't bother with system restore nowadays with respect to viruses. some viruses can infect the actual system restore rendering it useless,, or jsut be un affected by system restore.

formatting is the way to go.

but if its not a virus (OP said not sure its a virus) its easier to run the restore than format

and if the restore fails, then format
