So, I’m doing MX1 in Year 11. I tend to try and stay 2 or 3 exercises in the textbook ahead of class. But I don’t do tutoring (unlike 90% of my class since I go to a selective school). I plan to get a private tutor soon but until then - how did you study for Yr 11 MX1? I’ve got no idea where to get the harder problems to practice for exams - I don’t think Cambridge Enrichment questions will be that useful. My school’s past term 1 papers are mostly questions of topics we haven’t covered yet or probably won’t be in the test because of the new syllabus.Any thoughts on what I should do? Thanks!

There is not much available for the new syllabus yet. You guys are the guinea pigs. Things may improve soon once schools start doing tests for the new syllabus.

Currently you can get new senior maths, maths in focus and page proofs for cambridge. The extension 1 cambridge book will be available on March 20. There may gradually be other books available too but so far that seems to be it. Here are the publisher's links:

https://pearson.com.au/9781488618307

https://cengage.com.au/product/titl...athematics-extension-1-stu/isbn/9780170413299

https://www.cambridge.edu.au/educat...and-interactive-textbook-powered-by-HOTmaths/

You can also get Mathematics Extension 1 - Sample examination materials (2020) from nesa's website at http://educationstandards.nsw.edu.a...ge-6-mathematics/mathematics-extension-1-2017

There is considerable overlap between the new and old syllabus so you can still use parts of the old resources from places like https://thsconline.github.io/s/?landing - but you should get your teacher to help you discern what is relevant for the new syllabus.

Might be a "map" of which old past paper questions are applicable to the new syllabus.

this :)

just look at old past papers, and find questions for topics you're doing. There's also quite a few collection of questions by topics floating around on the internet which you can use, including compilation of HSC/CSSA questions by topic.

for some of the newer topics, like pigeonhole principle for example, i'm looking at overseas books + hsc level papers for equivalent past paper questions.

Long live google!

Terry Lee has a new book too which is supposed to be released this month called "New Fundamental Mathematics".

This combines Advanced and Extension 1 into the one book for year 12.

It is available for preorder at http://advancedmathematics.com.au and other bookshop websites.

(Dr.?) Tywebb, will you be working your magic and collecting trial papers for Year 11 of the new syllabi?
And perhaps Year 12 trial papers for Mathematics Standard 2?

They're far more helpful than textbooks!

It seems that this year all we got was 2 trials for Standard 2: Sydney Grammar and Manly:

Sydney Grammer 2019 Standard 2

Manly 2019 Standard 2

Anyway, Terry Lee has just released another new book called New Essential Mathematics. The new book covers year 11 2 unit and extension 1.

Seems strange that he effectively released them in backwards order (Ext 2 first, then Year 12, now year 11).

His Ext. 2 book though was the first one released for the new syllabus.
