question

Hey, I am doing a b/eco and, for my two options for session 1 & 2 I have picked
- LEG1711 Legal Environment of Commerce &
- INFS1602 Computer Information Systems..among my core subjects.
This is because in a letter I got from the UNI it said that these were subjects required for majoring in accounting, which I may do.
For Year 1, how important are these two options? Do they really matter, and will they affect what I can study/major in for year 2-3??

Also, can those people who are doing eco (and not a combined degree) plz post the subjects they chose.......

I believe INFS1602 is only required for CPA whereas LEGT1711 is for CA (and a prerequisite for the other LEGT subjects which are required to undertake CA). However, I am not sure if you need to do LEGT1711 in order to be eligible for CPA.

Not sure about INFS1602, but it's probably best to do LEGT1711 asap since you'll need it if you want to study the other things which are necessary for CA accreditation.

If you're interested in CPA; check out this site- http://www.cpacareers.com.au/study_options/acc_course_details.asp?CourseId=1290
If you're interested in CA; check out this site- http://www.icaa.org.au/upload/download/2005_ATC_List.pdf (see page 5)

(EDIT)
I'm not sure if B Economics is eligible for CA... but if you are studying Economics you are eligible to study most of the core requirements for CA anyway? *isn't really sure*

I'm in b eco currently in second year... I did acct1501, econ1202, econ 1101 and fins 1612 in semester 1 and acct1511, econ1203, econ1102 and fins1613 in sem 2. I'm majoring in econometrics and finance, hence the finance subjects in both first year sems.

BEco is accredited for CA/CPA so long as you complete the required subjects

INFS1602 is only required for CPA, but LEGT1711 is required by both CA and CPA

These subjects are not required for an Accounting major, but are required if you wish to do further study with CPA/CA

You sure about that Minai? I was looking on the ICAA website and can't seem to find any mention of B Eco; but I would imagine it should be ok?

Think of CA as a post grad course which u need to have passed the pre-requisite subjects to get into.

It doesn't say, but it doesn't matter what degree you do - as long as the pre-requisites are satisifed, you can apply (as Eagles mentioned)

technically neither of the 2 subjects mentioned are required for an accounting major from the university. However, they ARE required by the professional bodies.

INFS1602 should be postponed, since it is not a prerequisite for any accounting related course, it is available in both sessions (has been so far) and as seremify mentioned it is not required for one of the professional bodies's program.

Take LEGT1711 to keep options open. It's probably more useful too, since INFS1602 is a watered down computer course.

If things hasn't changed FINS1612 is not a required course unless you major in finance. you can take FINS1613 after macroeconomics and accounitng 1B
