I saw my friend today and she looked pretty... bad. Bad as in her hair was ruffled and uncombed and she basically looked as though she only woke up 2 minutes ago. The first thing I said to her was "wow... you look pretty bad. Looks as though you've been bashed or something..."

I didn't think much of it at the time, but now I feel bad about saying it. Should I have been that honest? She's not my girlfriend. She's just a really close friend. At the time, she didn't react much to what I said but nonetheless, I feel bad...

What should I have done? Told her she looked bad or just kept my big mouth shut?

Perhaps she was just going for the Bedhair look and you misinterpreted it.
Next time you see her stack her up with compliments about how she looks effortlessly pretty.
Is there even such thing as a "bedhair" look? :p I don't think I've seen it around :)

Just apologise and tell her you didn't mean to offend her and that you were just informing her. Honesty is always the best policy, provided people know you're not insulting them. :)

as long as you said it in a manner of fact way with good intentions. if you said it insultingly, pointed at her and burst out laughing it would be a different story.

ahahaha that is SO funny!

did she get pist off? if it looked as if she didnt care then why do u feel bad?

u should have just said "why is your hair so messy?" rather than saying "you look bad" which is commenting on her overall apperance

You should have kept your mouth shut. It's not nice to tell your friend that, I personally wouldn't love to hear that.

well IMO i think it all depends on what kinda chick you're talking to. if you're handling a girl who cries whenever you call her a dramaqueen or something, well you're better off just saying something alluding to her appearance say "why you look pretty tired today.. blahblahblah" rather than saying "you look pretty... bad". On the other hand, if she's lyk one of your good mates who doesnt think nothing of your comments whatever, but just soften the truth a little would you? i know honestly is the best policy but i think there's a limit to this little cliche.

This girl is pretty down to earth, and she probably knew that she looked how she felt - sick.

Why does it matter if you're a guy or a girl. If I look tired/sick/whatever, I get told that I look like shit. Would it be different if I was a girl? Why should it be, in any case? People need to get over it. It's not the end of the world if you have a bad day.

yeh i always say things like this... i also comment if u look good, and if i dont comment its not because u look like shit its because u look alright but not spectacular...plus i cant make nice comments to every1

if i know they can take it, i will say it otherwise if they are heaps sensitive, but i dont know them al lthat well like iam going to give a shit about their feelings... if they are a good friend, they will just assume iam joking, or be happy iam always honnest to them...meaning when i compliement them its genuine

Well, there is the difference if it is said to a guy or a girl. You know, girls always want to look pretty. Guys don't care so much about their looks as girls do. I don't know maybe I'm just such a girl, but other girls take it easier.
