I did extension his/eng & thought it wouldnt count but music didn't... I only got 40/50 for both, so I was surprised.

I definitely recommend having backup units for subjects like English Advanced. :wavey:
English has to count, sadly.
I got an ATAR equivalence of around 80 for advanced. :( Fortunately, my other subj were high 90s.

I didnt vote on this topic because it really depends on the situation. Backup units are only worth having if there is a strong probability that they will count towards your ATAR. There is no point doing a subject if it is unlikely to count towards your ATAR.

I had a backup unit in SOR I and even though it didnt count, it was worth having because I did do quite well in it and in case of trouble in one of my other subjects, it would have saved me (my marks were very consistant).

I did maths a year early so that was a great backup. If your school offers acceleration, do it. I also did English X 1 and 2. Neither ended up counting towards my ATAR but they were fun. EX1 was a minimal workload and EX2 was finished ages before final exams so no biggie. I think the minimum units should be 11.
