How do you see certain UAI ranks as? (1 Viewer)

For example:

30-49 UAI - Ugh, didn't work at all.
50 - 69 UAI - Not bad, but a lot more effort is required.
70 - 89 UAI - Good result, effort here and there.
90 - 95 UAI - Great cramming and study habits/academic capability.
95 - 97 UAI - High academic capability, some underlying natural intelligence.
98 - 99 UAI - Underlying natural intelligence and hard work!
100 UAI - Smart, natural intelligence, effort and hard work!

I'd like to hear varied opinions on this .

Very simplistic.

I have taught some kids who got into the 90s and bludged the entire year and others who have worked their butts off for 6 years and got a UAI in the 30s.

For the first student 94 might be a bit disappointing whereas the second student should be overjoyed with 38.

To start with you have to look at the natural ability of the kids and then what they do with that.

The top student my school has ever had started to work in Year 11 and got 99.9. In her same year was a kid who worked solidly from Year 7, got 41.7 and we were probably more pleased with her result because we had seen the work and determination that had gone into it. We knew she couldn't do any more or better than she had but at the back of our minds was - could the other one have done a little more work early on and take her to 100?

UAI isn't a scale of work or intelligence...It's just a race..Like a running race. The person who comes first isn't always the best runner, maybe someone was out with a foot injury, etc. But the people who do win are the ones who train, and who manage their time. So really, it's not based on natural ability etc (personally, I don't believe in that sh*t), but those can certainly help.

70 - 89 UAI - Ok, effort evident, and pride in work shown

100 UAI - No different from 99

Really, you can't define "smart", someone good in English isn't defined as smart by someone good at Maths.

how do you know your limits?, after u do say a test, u can always cwhere u went wrong and learn form ur mistakes, this can keep going onfor a long time

when you've worked your ass off, have tried your best, exhausted all forms of assistance (including bombarding your teacher and tutor with questions you need help with_ and have consistently achieved some range of marks in your tests... you know your at you limit.

I think there is a big difference between 99 and 100.

Well, between 99.95 and 100, about 40 people's worth of difference, between 100 and 99, about a 900 or so peoples difference...not that huge..

900 people is alot. Also have you seen the aggregate mark between 99 and 100, it's quite a fair bit.

Not from 65000 people..The point is, after a certain part, it basically becomes luck, and studying or effort make little difference...Like with running again, the difference between 1st and second is 0.01 seconds or so.

i dunno, ive seen people get really fucked over by scaling, particularly people who do really well in maths but just fail at english.

I see 80+ as really good.
I see 90+ as hard to achieve without solid study.
I see 95+ as my realistic aim.
I see 98.5+ as my idealistic aim.
