Thoughts? Admiration? Condemnation?

I enjoy his charismatic way with words, but this speech was more than that I think. I look forward to seeing what happens next.

Admiration.

He layed everything out.

He called Israel out, and called out Hamas.

Great speach, Hopefully we can see something productive in the next few months/years.

Personally, I get the distinct sense of Deja Vu from Mr. Chamberlain... I mean Obama. In true appeaser fashion, he tried to strike an accord with the bad guys, knowing full well that it can't have a truly significant effect. History tells us that, in situations like this, words alone are never enough. A show of force is required.

So, in response to the opening question to the thread... hesitant condemnation.

I know you're a bit thick, Neb, but I think you'll find most Israel supporters don't support Israeli expansion into the West Bank and Gaza. Certainly about 75% of American Jews don't.

It just so happens that we also don't support militant terror groups like Hezbollah and Hamas. In fact I think murdering civilians happens to be rather more vile than building in what's effectively another country.

Obama has the right idea by elevating Fatah and calling for a cease to settlement. If Israel truly wants peace on their doorstep they'll do that.

"Words are useless, violence is the answer."

Do you belong to Hamas or something?

Not surprising at all that he said that.

I'm surprised that he justified Israel's right to exist, called for a stop to violence from Palestinians and called for Islamic terrorism to be rooted out in a hall full of the Middle-East's most powerful, to a standing ovation, rather than a ravenous, unthinking mob. Progress indeed.

His speech gave me hope, and I hope it gives food for thought to the other young people more directly involved with the conflict within Islam that he directed his speech at.
