i don't think i've ever atempted a 'pickup line' as such, and rarely see a girl, and then consciously go about trying to ween my way into her pants.

do you make a conscious effort to seduce women? if so, what does it involve?

well no for women obviously. as for men, well, in most cases i dont make a conscious effort per se, but i think sub-counsciously i alter my behaviour to push in a certain direction (i.e. make it known i am open to sex)

although these sentiments only apply to the more random hookups. obviously, if i'm interested, in the long run, in a guy, i will be more conscious

When iam not drunk and am actually trying to "tune" iam brilliant at opening, i can hold and sustain a decent conversation but i cant close for shit, i guess part of it might be fear of rejection....but hey, maybe 20% of the time the girl does the closing and asks for your number or something which is pretty awesome. When ive had a drink i lose that self doubt and go for the close pretty easily [albeit with a lot less success than if i could actually fake confidence and do it sober]

For me it depends hugely on how the nights going and the ppl I'm with; rarely however do I find being modest, cool and laid back (how I'am usually) works.
