We're in a complicated relationship, so anything different would have been weird. I had no idea if the guy would say yes or no. We were just a drunken hook-up and he's only in year 10. So anything is possible, go for it!

But if the guy you're asking is traditional, I suggest doing it in person. As has been said, just keep it casual . Perhaps start by talking about the venue or something about the formal like that, and then just ask him. Good luck!
