I have heard it before, I don't know if its a legal requirement or just something in a particular states award.

Im in Queensland. back when i worked at maccas i was doing 20 hour weeks then they nearly got fined 10,000$$

We used ta do em but then they got banned in our area. I thought it was a cross-company thing but it turns out it wasn't. So yeah, no store in our area is allowed to close calls of any variety.

Work dinner is tonight, I gave it a miss. I'm doing the FE open tomorrow though and SM and SSA start at 6.30, SUCKED IN. I hope they're so hungover that I can bend them to my will.

Winnar we found out yesterday that we're closed boxing day... they've been adamant that we'll be open (even told us what shifts etc. we'd be working)

Why is that? i dont see whats so harmful about a close call??

My department has to have everyone working on christmas eve NO exceptions, unless your dead you have to be working -_-
But i'm avalible from Open-1500
so i am basicially avaliable 7 of the 14 hours were open :)

Guys what's your view on the union? I've heard various stories about it,a nd wondering if I should perhaps join. As a fifteen year old employee and one who's always curious and worried about his rights, that is.

On another note, are employees payed extra after 9PM? Worked for the first time till 10PM today, so just wondering.

I LOL though, when the supervisor leaves me on checkout one (our last reg open) and I make the calls from the service desk, and the customers stand around looking for someone to serve, and notice me making the call and then serve them LOL.
Not seeing the funny part here. I walk up all the way from register 10 to service desk just to make close calls when a svr doesn't do them quick enough.

Oh, and the new shirts. I ordered a plain one, can I change my mind and get a spotted one instead? And striped shirts - 2ICs or just dept managers?
I'm sure if you contact Total Image Group they will let you change the style of shirt you have chosen.

In regards to the striped Management shirts, they are only to be worn by the Store Manager, Store Trading Manager(s), Store Service Manager, Customer Service Manager and Customer Service Supervisors. They are not for other department managers/2ICs.

Obviously Area/Regional/National staff in Supermarket Operations (eg, Area Manager, HR Specialist, Store Services Specialist, Trading Specialists, Regional Manager, Regional/National HR Manager, General Managers, Directors etc) will also be wearing the management shirts when they are in stores.

my 2ICM called me in early at 12pm and finish late 8pm today and when i got to my store it was chokers with customers with trolleys cueing for the checkouts all over the service area i had to ask a customer if i could get through and i had to start 20 mins before i was ment to start cos it was busier then usual saturdays
i had no break until 6pm, thats how busy it was, then it got busier when i finished and i waited 30 mins for my floor manager to tell me to sign off and go. wtf but i did stock returns and helped the night fill whilst waiting

You have to get your break within five hours I think no matter what. It's in violation of my state agreement... check yours!

Re: Union - I used to think it was bullshit and not worth joining, although in the past month all Department managers at our store have joined because Woolworths here are cutting back hours and we are worried they are going to cut into our contracts. For me it's only $6 a week (And that includes a $7000 funeral plan :p)

Re Close Calls - I haven't worked nights on checkouts for about a year, so I have no idea if they still do closing calls or not.

Re Groovy Girl working 6 hrs without a break - You need to remind who ever is supervising you about your breaks, because at times when it is super busy it is easy for them to forget. You must take your breaks, the last thing they want is a staff member fainting on them. (I almost done that once, was working Produce by myself went my entire 8 hour shift without eating or stopping once, started to feel all dizzy, wasn't very nice)

- Fix the Envirobag Problem. This is NUMBER ONE priority. It is annoying,each time that someone uses an envirobag,the machine goes"Unexpected Item in the Bag Area.

- A screen that comes up after people sign(on credit) that says "Please Wait for Signature Approval

- After pressing yes to approve a signature,A Screen that says "Signature Approved.Please wait for receipt.",Instead of Just stating on the "Yes,No,Clear Screen."

- The ability to update the Fruit & Veg on one machine,and have it go onto all the SCO`s,rather than just the one.

If these things are done,I will be a happy chappy indeed,Especially as I will be doing a lot of SCO over christmas.

are you talking about Store Release 9.3 or is there an actual SCO upgrade coming?

yes all these problems and how about the security scale works better and stops asking for assistance every 5 seconds when nothing is wrong!!... and many other problems that I can't be bothered explaining :)

this new software is so inferior to the NCR software :(

umm, I don't think its 9.3 - I'm fairly sure we've already had that upgrade (we don't have 'ATM Pickup' or 'ATM Add Loan' anymore.) So Im just guessing its an actual SCO upgrade, cause we were told to do a change order yesterday due to the 'upgrade' on Tuesday... i have no idea whats going on though...
