Grrr got told by TI today that my management shirt should be at my store by mid-March. And got told that nobody has the management shirts yet... yeah right :p Not happy considering I ordered on 27/10/09.

The wait continues.

I know! She was like "yes your management shirt, mm you've been waiting on that one a while". YOU DON'T SAY.

You know that dumpster diving incident i was talking about a while back? I got a formal counselling about it today. It was totally fine though, they were really friendly about it (HR and SSM) and the "action" outcome is me being "actively involved" in the waste reduction programs like Food Bank, Second bite, eco ambassador etc. Although that's my third counselling since i started, so i probably should have been sacked, but they must expire after 12 months or something.

Except it was totally awkward because when I sat down with them in the manager's office I had no idea I was getting in trouble so I was like "oh god you've noticed i stole the safe haven't you!" and then they looked VERY awkward and I was like "oh".

I did the most amazing pack up tonight with only one operator on for the last two hours of trade. Everything was spotless.

So yesterday I was working in self serve as usual, I look to my left and two sus guys walk into the cosmetics aisles. I went to call a security camera check to be safe. As I went over to the P.A, a coles worker sprints up to me and alerted me that the pair just stole from Coles and that we should keep an eye on them.

So that point i've gone "SM/STM - immediate service 20 please" ---- "security camera check section c"
Then they walk out laughing at us whilst STM stands out of self serve to see if they beep (they did not). The coles person was standing discreetly outside safeway also. Good that they let us know though.

^ your store does some freaky shit on the PA, what with your 37 close calls and security camera checks, i've never heard of such a thing.

You totally don't have to answer this or anything, but what have you done to get yourself THREE counselling sessions? Totally curious, but as I said, you don't have to answer.

Also, I'm going to have to pull out some freaky shit on thursday to do a decent job, I have one operator who can spot check, and she's SO SLOW. Plus they seem to have got rid of the two supervisors on thursday idea, because they moved the other one to an 8-5.30 :(

Fuck, I just realised I'm on Friday at 8am, so my CSM will be able to have a go at me about how much shit gets left. I think I'm growing ten arms between now and thursday.

I know, I'm having a good night if I remember to do one close call. Though I once did the most awesome impromptu call reminding customers not to leave handbags in trolleys (something like three handbags had been stolen in an hour, it would have been funny if the supervisors/managers hadn't been tied up with it for forever).

It's not that hard to spot check is it, unless you guys have to do something complicated. Our spot check is just entering the number of $50 notes, $20 notes and so on

Although I am horribly slow at counting notes, I don't want to make a mistake. One of the guys whose been with Coles for aaaages is crazy fast at doing them.

Its not hard at all, but you need supervisor privileges in your checkout bank before you can do it.

And even though I have operator/supervisor maintenance in my Office menu, I'm really REALLY reluctant to change anyone over.
Hopefully I have a good manager on. I know I've got the good (well the helpful) SSA on, so that will help somewhat until she leaves.

Calling "security camera check" on the PA is doing no favours for loss prevention though. a more discreet service 100 could be more appropriate.
Sure it will alert the thiefs to their presence, but the idea of loss prevention is to actually find and catch these people in order to 'prevent' any more losses.

If they are smart then it will do nothing. Loss prevention would still be able to catch them if they ignore the P.A message, but if the crims know what they are doing, they wont.
We hardly have LPO's in our store hence why we call them. Our CSM wrote in a communications book that they must be made on a regular basis.

BTW in our store, service 100's are only used in a serious situation (e.g somebody HAS stolen something, fighting, etc things that require priority), hence why I did not say "STM, service 100" that time

Why would only a meat manager take that perspective?
I'm taking the perspective from the side of the business and in general: Prevention is better than a cure.

Because meat (and liquor I guess), in my experience, lose the most through repeat offenders.
Besides, how often are loss prevention people in store anyway?

Unrelated though, anyone want my shift for tomorrow? totally cbf working. :p

Agree with the service 100 thing - in that once that is called, basically every staff member that is available goes to that store location. Usually it's if they've done a runner or have tried to in the backdock.
Calling service 100's allthe time will get on the nerves of staff and would make it less-likely for staff to respond to a service 100 in the time of an actual emergency.

srs? Only 9 hours supervision :| On a weekday where none of the staff that work listen to me at all.

Also, you will not catch me running for a service 100 - i don't care at all.

I heard of a drunk dude shoving $20 of meat down his pants, SM is like "give those back, and get out my store"
He came and told me, as he cracked up laughing at the guy.

I didn't hear of much theft in meat... Obviously I'm not an experienced meat manager! :p
