people on these forums have sticks up their asses. atar is a rank. someone has to get in the bottom 30%. not everyone has to care about the hsc. some people have plans to go straight into apprenticeships...good for them...they have a plan and their following throuugh with it. u freaks from selective schools are so consumed that education is everything that realistically you'll probably earn a little more money in life than dumber fucks but you'll have less friends and live sader lives.
no, get this into your head you fuckstick

if you got lower than 30 in your atar you didn't care two shits about your education. Why the fk did you waste time doing a meaningless set of exams in the first place?

if you had any ounce of common sense you would've dropped out earlier

and no. i failed the selective test

also lol @ this bit

you'll probably earn a little more money in life than dumber fucks
probably something like 0.5% of the 'dumber fucks' eventually get rich

I bet you felt ecstatic to pass your goal! That is great, and I'm sure you'll get into your course - which, afterall, is all that really matters.

I was over the moon with English and Philosophy; content and pleased with SORI; pleased enough with Physics (although I expected more)... and very disappointed with Chemistry and the Maths.

69 was incredibly low and scores in the lowest 25% of the state in Maths Extension 2 :\... but it's done now - nothing to do now. I am pleased that my ATAR is still high enough to give me a chance at getting my first University preference and should certainly get my back-up.

I pity dose WHO THA FUCK state dat Humanities are scaling higher den Mathematics.

Firstly, ta make dis clear, dere 's been a major overhaul (or it seems) in da indexing ov da marks. Back in 2006, I fink sumfing lyk 1600-1800 people got band 6 in English Advanced. dis year, about 3600 people got a band 6 in da same subject. Can yu compare your marks ta a person from 2006? No, because ov da discrepancy in da aligning ov da marks. Back in 2006, they may hav aligned da marks using a different technique such dat scaling for da UAI woz greater. So an 85 back then may hav been scaled higher in da determination ov UAI rather den an 85 now for ATAR.

Also, scaling lol & indexing/aligning iz determined purely by rigorous statistics. Just from me understanding, indexing ov da subject iz basically your rank in da exam amongst da state fitted in ta a prescribed model / shaped curve. dis curve isn't necessarily perfectly normal, but may hav some skew depending in various parameters. As for da scaling process, correlation analysis iz key ta determine how one subject iz inherently more difficult den anoder . Modelling iz intensive, wif particular attention being paid ta da correlation ov marks within da year + historical data ov da subject related ta previous year cohorts.

How can humanities be scaled higher?
- Lower aligned marks due ta new prescribed model
- Harder exam (relating ta correlation in marks wif harder subjects dis year + previous year information in marks).
- Biased arbitrary bump in marks??
- More students wif harder science subjects taking up humanities lol & performing relatively da same across there subjects

Qualifications: B Com-Actuarial / App Finance graduate
Sorry, but your spelling is "lyk" fucking atrocious.

um not the 30% does not necessarily needs to be filled up with every single student. ATAR is compared with your year 7 cohort i believe like UAI for year 10. So those that were supposedly in year 7 but dropped out at end of year 10 are still considered for ATAR selection, though they never get it. So that means there is bound to be several spots left blank.

anyways i am happy with my results as i never expected it to be so high.

99.30 for the win :D and here i thought the max i ever get is 98... shows a little effort and not giving up can get you a long way through the HSC :D

No. There are so many unsubstantiated assumptions within this post. FTR i did accelerated 4u maths this year and am doing ext 2 english now. Initially, not every1 who does 3u/4u maths has a tutor, and even if they do a tutor cannot sit an exam for them. Obviously if they attain good marks they must have done it through their own skill. A tutor does not make a good student, a tutor guides a student towards realising their potential and helps them if they have difficulty. Sound familiar? Yes, a tutor has the exact same role as 'mentors' in ext 2, so in actuality ext 2 english also has their form of tutor. Furthermore, the extent of the major work differs significantly due to the broad scope that one can choose from. Take for example ext 2 english: one can write a shrot story, poetry, critical analysis or make a film or speech. The amount of effot put in really depends on what u do. I already had the idea for my major work, so could get started straight off, other ppl take more time. So u cannot just assume that every1 does exactly the saem amount of work as u, it really depends on wat they choose to do. In addition, Maths requires huge amounts of effort. The homework is immense and the constant revision is not to be envied. There is a reason y very few if any have gotten 100% in ext 2 maths.

This is getting way off topic... Please keep it about ATARs, and not whether or not tutoring helps in certain subjects, and then personally attacking other users.

Hoooly shit, people get way too heckers about their ATARs. Pages 9 & 10 were just RAGERAGERAGE. You guys on page 9 and 10 need to calm the farm. It's like ATARs turn people into massive pricks.
I'm kind-of ashamed now to be in the same ATAR league as you pompous 90+ kids.

I ended up getting 95.40 although it was .20 off the predicted 95.60 its still a good result my parents are pleased so I guess I should be too. Especially considering that 95 was the ATAR I originally set out to achieve; all the way back at the beginning of year 11 I wrote on a scrap of paper the words "I want a UAI (that's what it was called back then) of 95." So I guess I have to be pleased with that.

A big congratulations to everyone who achieved their desired ATARs and for the rest of us the ATAR becomes redundant once University life sets in so just apply yourself to whatever you do, and hard work plus diligence will definitely pay off.

LOL nahh its mainly this post making outrageous claims that all of us felt had to be rebutted:

My ATAR is.... 30.00 OR LESS. And my lowest mark was 60 for a subject (but highest was 67). And for me... I am SOOOO HAPPY to actually PASS it! :D

Do I care about the marks/atar? Nope. Did I study all year? No. Did I study last minute? Yes, but it was very inconsistent. I got the mark I deserved.

IMO, It's an ACHIEVEMENT to actually do and complete the HSC. People give up and drop out and don't even do the HSC. So EVERYONE should be proud they have completed the HSC and passed it. And remember, there is like, for example tafe is a ticket into Uni. I found out I got into Tafe yesterday. :)
Completing the HSC is definitely NOT an achievement. I totally agree with Chromatic, NewiJapper and b00m! great reply guys! =] but yeh, getting such marks means one failed one's hsc in terms of raw marks, as has been pointed out already. So being able to satisfy less than half of the content learnt in an hsc subject certainly CANNOT be termed an achievement.... seriously, anyone who puts in SOME effort and has SOME concern for their education can do ok in the HSC and get a publishable ATAR =P it just goes to show the attitudes some people hold towards their own education and their own futures... im not talking about the people who decided to drop out of school or not go to uni due to pursuit of meaningful paths such as doing an apprenticeship, but if people do the hsc they should at least be serious about it and care about what they do and put in decent amount of effort AT LEAST! =P
ok i'll stop ranting now.. its not that i wanna be a prick or anything or that i have anythign against such ppl, but its just really disappointing to see some people have such an attitude towards education, not valuing their own education and not trying for their own good, when, had they tried, they couldve actually 'achieved'!
p.s. i did NOT go to a selective school... and i do NOT lead a sad life and most people who went to selective schools certainly have a great social life etc.... =]
