On the HSC exam papers, a poem is called "Elegy in a Botanical Garden", however, the actual name of the poem is "Elegy in a Botanic Gardens". Which way should I write it in the HSC?

Use what's written in the exam papers, always. People who don't know about the poem would have to use that name, so you'd be expected to as well.

If it is a prescribed text, then use the real title. They should know that it is a mistake on their part.

If it is given to you as a part of section 1, use the title that's given. The basis of the section is to not know the texts outside of the exam.

Then go with the real title. It's a mistake on their behalf, but most likely a typo. Surely they'd have to know the full title, especially if critics note the grammatical error.

Oh whoops, dw, I was looking at the 2009 paper, they fixed it in the 2010 paper.

I was wondering which paper it was from. Still, it seems unusual that something like that would get through onto any paper.

hmmm, I would just always use what they say in the HSC exam, that way you can't be wrong, and you have proof right in front of you. But it shouldn't really matter (that is, if the marker is not such an arrogant dick)
