even in america m8 black communities have worse environments etc

same in australia with abos

even within same towns (dubbo) the nutrition and health of the mother and child are far worse on average for aboriginals than whites

IQ is negatively affected by nutrition but I'm pretty sure it would have to be extremely severe, like starving in some shitty village in Ethiopia or somewhere.

thats the 6 million dolla question mate

the hereditarian hypothesis is partially predicated upon the insufficiency of environmental explanations to explain the gap between american negroes and whites

dunno about abos theres scant to no data on them

but abo iq is so incredibly fucking low i find it implausible that could be entirely due to bad environments b/c it would mean they would be living in environments worse than sub saharans africans

but what about if this disadvantage is compounded over generations

each generation of malnurished smoking alcoholics giving birth to developmentally disadvantaged kids who do the same etc

One point: When you refer to minorities, remember you're distinguishing between more intelligent minorities like Ashkenazi Jews (the smartest in the world apparently) and Northeast Asians, and less intelligent minorities like Hispanics and Blacks. (you can replace "intelligent" with "achieving" or something if you want.)
actually I should have specified I was talking about the australian context, so minorities here means e.g. Aboriginals, and also low SES background, which isn't technically a minority but yeah

That's not how things work.

It's called supply and demand.

And teachers are typically fucking idiots, and I would have learnt more spending my high school years sitting in a library than listening to those mouth breathers prattle on.
Supply and demand ay. There is a huge teacher shortage, thus by your own logic they should be extrememly highly paid.

actually i wonder if teachers would be better off financially if they were de-unionised and education was, well not totally privatised but less regulated and government-controlled than it is now... would be interesting

Serious discussion please. Why is it that the working class as a whole tends to be more socially and fiscally conservative than the others? You'd think that some class consciousness and solidarity would mobilise the working class against privilege, but they instead seem to focus their anger on migrants, homosexuals etc - much like the middle class of the southern United States. I find it very nonsensical that the working class is fairly right-wing and often tend to vote for the Liberals, even though it's against their own interests to do so. You'd think that the working class would be far-left.

Thoughts?
I can understand what you mean if you look at some politically illiterate people who are afraid of change due to their life-experiences. Keep in mind that the working class are not a sub-species of people, and that they can be as centrist as the rest of the population. This would reinforce why they would vote for the major parties like the majority of the population. However, the Greens (far-left) are on the rise. It could be their political arrogance running within themselves that result in them voting Liberal.

teacher quality has a bigger influence than home, peers, school or principal

http://www.annedavies.com/pdf/19C_ex...ers_hattie.pdf
id never heard of these but you can always be suspicious when you hear this outrageous stuff about people can bridge gaps for things like low SES background when researchers have been working on it for years and years and years in basically every country that these gaps have been observed to basiaclly no success at all

then some magical teaching technique or something comes along and shows that you can get rid of it like a magic bullet

this gets reported on a lot i think ausrtalia is starting to go through the same hoops as the u.s.a has

no idea m8 but there's no reason not to be skeptical of stuff like this

i could research it further (and should) but its 5 am here brah

Figure 3 shows a significant improvement in authentic achievement for both ATSI and non-ATSI students when the tasks featured explicit details regarding the quality of work that was expected of students, when tasks made evident teachers’ high expectations of students’ achievement, and when tasks provided students some degree of choice in terms of the task requirements

lmao

this sounds like stereotype threat mate

the worst thing about aus research is that nobodyh can get down and gritty with the data (or at least few want to) because its so obscure from a country nobody cares about

Are the Greens on the rise? Last newspoll had their primary vote unchanged at 14% from memory, and they also didn't win any lower house seats at the Vic elections. Even here, where they're in a coalition government, their vote in the election didn't come close to what the polls were indicating. A lot of people go hoo-ha about the Greens pre-election but then get to the ballot box and back out.

I find it interesting that Labor has such a visceral hatred of the Greens, which seems to surpass the liberals, yet one would assume they are ideologically much more similar.

They most certainly are on the rise. In our lifetime we will see a green led government.

you can't be serious!

that said, one could see them becoming more mainstream... but then there's the danger that the true believers will split from the moderates and so forth
