Re: Massive terrorist attacks in Norway, over 30+ dead

Norway along with Sweden recently withdrew their six fighter planes, along with the six from Sweden which had been participating in the bombing of Libya. This is a typical act of terror by the real powers USA/UK likely using a manchurian candidate to rein in dissent and get them back in the fold so that they can look a united force in their global goals. Notice the words of Obama and Cameron on the attacks on Norway, it is all about terrorism, and being UNITED in this war against terror. This reveals a lot as to the mentality of the USA/UK as regards what happened in Norway.

This “terrorist” attack serves a number of purposes, more draconian measures will be imposed across europe, easier to put more invasive machines in airports and anywhere they feel it necessary to scan you, xray you, radiate you, stop you, search you, etc. They say this”terrorist” is blond and blue eyed, this will take some of the heat from the real looking dark skinned Al Qaeda and make EVERYONE a potential terrorist.

Why are they wasting taxpayers money on providing such facilities for their criminals?
do you realise that it actually helps rehabilitate criminals?

scandinavia has the lowest crime rates in the world

why should it be the tax payer's concern that a nut job is rehabilitated.

Because from a utilitarian perspective less people die when they get released and from a more human perspective that person can go on to contribute to the wider society once they get out.

Regarding private prisons you can see in some states a kind of prison industrial complex where private prisons seek a constant stream of inmates to pay for their indentured labour force and run their enterprise. You get situations where certain states find they haven't encarcerated enough people to make their state contracts work. This can lead to an inevitable moral hazard of magistrates, judges and politicians urging people inthe justice system to favour encarceration either through bribery or increasingly onerous sentencing provisions in the criminal code. Such a situation is antithetical to the utilitarian principles underlying rehabilitation in incarceration and thus a non economic solution should be provided to a non economic problem. In short, crime doesn't pay (prisons).

I'd say that's avoiding a negative externality like carbon emissions.

Incidentally, opening of borders to illegal immigrants is promoted by economists and libertarians with no thought given to negative externalities like crime, disease and the fact these people overwhelmingly vote for left leaning governments who give them welfare.

They value their current relaxed and quite frankly awesome way of life too much to impose shitty restrictions imo.
PM seems to feel that way as well.

Re: Massive terrorist attacks in Norway, over 30+ dead

If only one or more of those teenagers had enough reckless self-disregard for their own well being that they attempted to tackle the gunman down.
They may have reduced casualties, including their own. A machine gun is not an agile piece of machinery to manoeuvre a 360 degree arc of defence on one's own, with reload and firing faults in play.
This said from the safety of a computer, in a situation completely uncomprehendible to anyone who has not experienced it, including of course myself, but I still ask, if only should it maybe one day assist. Seriously, don't run away from a gun in an open field if you have no immediate cover or plan. Run towards it, if only it distracts the shooter long enough so that your friend can take him down and squeeze his nose and say "BAD MAN. JESUS IS A LIE".

Yeh I was thinking this a lot too, shit thing is you don't know what everyone else is thinking so it's really gotta be a solo job. Would really only have a chance to do it at the start with the initial panic I guess...

Reminds me of the prison dilemma tbh.
But someone has to start.

At a youth politics seminar ... everyone is probably too busy trying to think up an argument to their circumstances. Which I completely agree with as a lifestyle policy - violence without necessity is for apes .. but all good ideas need a physical defence strategy. If you think your argument is worth defending, invest in primal defence. Learn how to be aggressive, to preserve peace.
A useless addendum to the tragedy, again. I just really wish the good minds of society could be heard more, to get more exposure from behind the brutal force of mediocrity. (NB: I have no political opinion or knowledge of Norway or the political leanings of the camp that was attacked).

Re: Massive terrorist attacks in Norway, over 30+ dead

when they say automatic weapon i'm pretty sure they mean a small assault rifle i.e. something that weighs 3-4 kgs, not some huge 10kg machine gun

this guy was skilled with the weapon since he was a hunter according to his FB so he could prolly reload it in under 5 seconds

Re: Massive terrorist attacks in Norway, over 30+ dead

Different people are reporting so many different kind of weapons that no one really seems to know. Semi auto pistol and a rifle with a scope is about all that seems to be mostly common in each account.

Also - Norway attacks: Police say shooting suspect immediately surrendered when told to do so - @Reuters

5 seconds. 40 metre sprint with adrenaline. Make him panic? Add a few seconds. 70 metres. Fuckload of distance covered. Eat his fucking jugular vein. Brutal, instinctual, survival. It's pleasant to not have violent instincts - but that simpsons stint where everyone gives up their guns and the aliens attack .. rings true.

If it was a small assault rifle, he would have had to reload regularly. If it was a machine gun, he would have a longer reloading task. Either way. Opportunity, you have to attack. You absolutely must face death in that situation. Once again, I can't say whether I would or would not melt. But if this shit happens ever - and you can fire the right neuron in your head - just remember this: ATTACK THE SOURCE! HACK THE BONE HACK THE BONEEEEEEEE.

I expect I'd go for it, of course I can't say anything for sure without being in the position, but it's not like I have anything important to live for.
The chance to stop him killing more people is more than enough reason for me to go for it. That said if I had people I was super close to it would be much more of a dilemma.

It would probably come down to situation and opportunity as well, if I had them and never took it I'd have trouble living with myself I think.

Re: Massive terrorist attacks in Norway, over 30+ dead

This is absolutely terrible  My heart goes out to Norway, esp the victims and their families and friends :(

which is a totally sane and moral thing to do :D

who is he to decide what the country should do, the king of norway?
he should send a peaceful and civil message, not a violent one.
if he doesnt like what theh country's becoming then he can go live in another country.
There's no way he would have received so much attention in such a short period of time had he done that instead.

yes but that is only true if you make torturing a routine thing. so thereby if u do it secretly, no one knows and it becomes a one time exception, therefore not changing a thing
Are you serious? Please tell me you're not serous.

Terrible tragedy, but everybody needs a little cheering up.
That made me a little sick, tbh =/
