Shadowdude, you are aware that what you're saying is completely ridiculous and unnecessary.

Why give ownership or something to people who don't even use it properly or to their own belief system. If gays aren't allowed to get married heterosexuals shouldn't be able to get divorced.

to clarify:

such scum should be sterilised
gays should not be allowed the have children
Adoption.
Your argument is invalid.

If it's the same thing, then why give it a different name?
Exactly.
If a Rose by any other name is just as sweet then "traditional" marriage will be just as sweet it shares it's name with gay marriage.

anyone who is for deserved to be shot
Past tense? So you're saying in this day and age it is acceptable? Okay. Cool.

Well, religious people have adopted it. Surely we can at least be decent and allow them to go on their merry way. It's just a word, and as I said, we can find a better word for the homosexual 'marriage'.
Then why can't homos adopt it too?
If it's just a word then why does it matter? You're making no logical sense.

If people are making religions arguments about gay marriage, Consider how much the percentage of those who associate themselves with Catholicism has dropped and those who associate with secularism has increased since 1901. (and also consider those who nominate catholic who are baptised but aren't practising whatsoever like myself) (http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@...bfdda1ca506d6cfaca2570de0014496e!OpenDocument), it's bull shit that gay/lesbian unions aren't entitled to the exact same rights as married people. I dgaf about the actual term, but the equal marriage rights is totally ridiculous. If they are given equal rights and continue to bitch about the term, then get real m8s.

Shadowdude do you ever read your posts and think "holy shit I'm a fucken crazy person!"

just wondering
Yes, actually.

It might be ridiculous, well... it is kinda - but I think we're looking at it negatively. I like giving contrary opinions...

It's debatable whether if marriage is even used properly, and it's arguable that the term 'marriage' and the aura and reverence I give it is moot because people are "marrying" their dogs or whatever in America or whatever country. In the end, I could accept if gays had 'marriage' (using that word), but I'd just prefer if they used another word - but I'm not fussed.

I'm just thinking, and brainstorming that we can use this opportunity to find a better word for same-sex marriage... like we came up with 'civil union', I'm sure we can figure out something much nicer.

It's just a word, so why are you fussing over it?

Your argument can be turned against you.

Shadowdude, you're all for expressing what you think but not why you think it. Why should gays not use the word marriage even though it would be exactly the same as heterosexual marriage?

especially seeing as though it really has no religious affiliation.

but then again we'd have to make more legislation to cover divorce law, as well as other areas of the law. This means that the people who are in the equivalent of marriages will have to be facing discrimination for at least a period of time, possibly even 20 years..
The law should try to make life easier for everyone in general.

Why is a difficult question... it's more a gut feeling. It's like... religion. You can't "prove" a religion, but it just feels right to you - so that's why you have faith in it.

I suppose it's just my upbringing and 13 years at a Christian school that makes me think: marriage = man and woman.

Well, not really... they could all do it in one fell swoop, I suppose.

But you can prove that that's not true.

In the end, marriage means something to me and it means something else to you. I'm just of the opinion that marriage should be between a man and a woman - I can't really give much in terms of why except that's what I... feel, and it's not exactly great to use in a debate - but... yeah.

I'm sure you'll find similar stubbornness and lack of actual reason in someone who say, wants to marry their cat - and why they should be able to, for example.

No. Religion is based on ethical guidelines and practices that you can use to back up your claims, you're just too fucking retarded to use any of that.
So, you admit you've been brainwashed?

No woman would ever want to marry you!
Why are you even speaking on this topic?

Shadowdude, I don't think you should really be participating in an argument when your reason is "I have a feeling".

You can't keep responding with that. And really I should be quiet because arguing with stupidity is futile. For someone who shouts the merits of his own logical mind you are completely the opposite.

Because you're wrong and in ten years time I will be happily married to the Caucasian woman of my choice who will be extraordinarily beautiful and sexy and awesome in every way and... yada yada yada.

I just took this as an opportunity to voice an opinion... you can't really say an opinion is definitively 'right' or 'wrong' anyway. They can be... misinformed, etc.

And I'd like to be logical, but it's... a bit difficult actually. I'm hoping the maths will allow me clearer thinking.
