Hi I'm Jess and am in year 10 right now, I want to become a graphic designer and was wondering if these subjects would be any good for that.

I've chosen English Advanced, Ancient History, Society & Culture, Visual Arts, Photography and Hospitality.

But I just found out that I can change some of them later so was wondering if there are any other subjects which would be good for graphic design.

Thanks :)

Visual Arts is good for graphic design - I've had a few friends go into that field and they did Visual Arts. I assume the major work helped them express themselves.

I don't think photography is a subject that can be counted towards an ATAR, you need 10 units of (basically each subject is 2 units, and extension subjects are 1 unit) of subjects that can counted towards an ATAR to get an ATAR, and go to uni(all your other subjects are ATAR I think, maybe hospitality isn't...).

So if you would like to go to uni, and a few uni's offer graphic design degrees, then I'd talk to a teacher about which subjects might help to get an ATAR.

Apart from that, visual arts would be the most beneficial for where you plan to go...

Hospitality is a VET course so as long as OP only chose one, it will count...

Hmm stick to visual arts. Its true that some subjects do not get counted in the calculation of your ATAR. My advice is to stick to subjects that will get you the marks in the end and the ones you enjoy. Good luck and all the best. =]

It is a HSC subject, it's offered at my school. It's Category A I'm very sure too.

EDIT: Checked it and it is a Board Developed Course like I thought.

You need another 1 unit subject or 2 unit subject since you must complete at least 12 preliminary units.

There is also a 2 unit photography course :)
This is true.
One unit is one year and two unit is two, if I'm not mistaken. They only offer two unit at my school and only one unit at the girls' school across the way.

Main subjects you should do are photography and visual arts. All the others just do if you enjoy them. Also, if you want an ATAR then do ATAR subjects, atm you're all set.

Also, do graphic design at TAFE.
