I never planned to cram. I just ended up having to because I never got around to studying anything consistently apart from Maths because the other subjects were so boring. Cramming puts you under a lot of pressure and you never know if you're going to fail or not. I'd recommend studying consistently over cramming.
...and you still got .70 :speechless: That's impressive.

I'll have to talk to my parents about it, but if I needed a Bio/Chem tutor sometime could I pm you? - if you're not too busy that is.
Yeah definitely.. well I'm situated in the South-West of Sydney - parramatta, blacktown region, I'm not sure if that's suitable for you.
But I do have a few more opening at the moment.

Yeah.. the weaknesses in cramming definitely show up in my maths marks more than anything else.. =/

Ideally consistent study is ideal.. but with a busy social life and wanting to enjoy the last year of school, it becomes difficult. Cramming can put you under a lot of pressure, but you can quickly get to a point of confidence with it. One week of effective cramming just on one subject, e.g. 3-4 hrs a night, is quite a lot in the scheme of things and should give you confidence heading into an exam.

Oh blacktown is quite far for me, I live in Hurstville area. Thanks though, I'm definitely going to get new tutors.

haha, yeah that is far away.
But i'm sure there are a multitude of well-equipped, cheap tutors on this website who could cater to your needs.

It was my fear of actually failing that allowed me to cram for a ridiculous number of hours during the HSC examination period. I thought I was going to get a Band 4 for English and I was up until 4AM on the morning of the Phys HSC trying to learn the last topic. That's why ALL my external marks are higher than my internal marks.

Although it can be easy to, definitely do not neglect your weaker subjects.
10 units counts towards the ATAR.

You got into Med. ? Was the interview/umat difficult? Medicine is what I want to do.

Haha yes this was me. I mainly did maths as it was fun, everything else bored me to much.

Do not leave UMAT preparation too late. I have some practice papers available if you're interested(pm me)

Interview is another important component, but I would advise you focus on UMAT at the moment.

I can't agree more with your statement about quality over quantity. Studying the whole day but not actually taking in the stuff you're studying is a waste of time. Working consistently across all your subjects is all you need to do. I know it's easy just not to study the subjects you hate (I hate english too), but doing a little study of these subjects will help take off the stress for when you'll have to cram. One of the things that works for me is breaking up your study session instead of just studying the same subject for 3 hours. For english for example, I'd do 30mins-1hr and then do a bit of maths/science as a reward and then do another hour or so.

Mathsonline isn't free anymore. You can still use your old account but I think they will eventually remove it. No one sponsored them anymore so we have to pay to use it now :(
I find this (http://www.slideshare.net/nsimmons) just as good, if not better. It's basically slideshows with a voiceover done by a teacher from Baulko. There's also http://www.khanacademy.org/ and http://www.youtube.com/user/patrickJMT?blend=1&ob=0, but they're not tailored for the HSC Course

Yeah it's probably better to do subjects you dislike first, and then do your favourites as a reward. My teacher said that in class and everyone laughed.

@sointoyourself
I'll try giving you advice for specific subjects.
Bio + Chem: Takes notes on the syllabus dot points. I didn't do either of those subjects for the HSC, but I know people who did. You could try attempting past HSC questions (just stick to multiple choice if you cbf doing the short answers).
English: I've been told that memorising essays is a good way to go about this subject. I didn't try it myself (not for internals), but a LOT of people in my year did, and we seem to have done all right in English this year (118 Band 6s). So try memorising an essay and adapting it to different questions each week.
General Maths: I'll assume that the method I used for 2/3/4U will work for General. Practice a couple of question from each topic from a textbook (no need to do all of them). once you feel reasonably confident with the topic, try practising on questions from past papers (eg. HSC).
Can't comment on Mod History, don't know anything about it.
Hope this helps.

Study routines should be goal based, not "okay i'm going to do this many hours today".
Quality > Quantity IMO.
It doesn't matter how many hour you spend studying.. but it does matter how many effective and smart hours you spend studying. It's important to understand what study method works best for you.
Cramming was an effective technique for me, but perhaps for you.. you might need more consistent study. I don't know.
This exactly. Its all about what you do, not how long you do it for. 1 hour of effective and efficient study beats 5 hours of ineffective study.

Sciences: Get your syllabus notes ready so that you don't need to revisit multiple textbooks or ask last minute questions to tutors/teachers close to exams.
Imo, getting such notes/material ready for final revision (before each exam) is far more important than attempting practice questions/past papers. One or two days should do for getting used to the exam style.

and very much agreed with Shadowdude's goal based learning, but you can make it a bit flexible too.
If somehow the goal you set is achieved too quickly for some days and if you feel like it, do some more on that day and then you can afford to do a bit less on other days when you really cbb or are tired, though never do it in the other order!

Cramming is quite effective for word based subjects such as Physics, Chemistry and Economics. Those type of subjects don't require very much thinking.

Physics requires thinking.. its math based T-T

I am assuming you did well at maths?

What would you define as 'effective study'
This morning i spent two hours writing an essay..?

i reckon 'effective' is getting it done.

But then idk T-T

Effective study is not solely getting it done by rushing it. It's going through the material and understanding everything plus learning from your mistakes.

That's what I call effectivity. ;)
