I know that MX1 is harder than 2U, and also that there is a bigger workload. However, how much of a step up exactly is MX1 from 2U? Is it a LOT harder? Is the workload e.g. more than twice as much/about 20% more than 2U?

How much time needs to be devoted to it?

I got around 74% for my half yearly (us MX1-ers have one combined 2-3U hour-long paper), and was considering dropping

Depends how good you are at maths. If you're good, then it's a small step.

I'd say it's a moderate step up. Some of the topics are challenging.

Best way to find out is to take the subject yourself.

I really don't know at this stage. I seem to enjoy maths mostly and are able to do pretty most of what's required, but I always run out of time during exams (I even finished my english half yearly)

Well, that's exam technique thing - not concept understanding failure.

If you enjoy it, and can do most of it, then you keep doing it until you get a better reason to drop.

74% is pretty good in MX1. Don't drop.

Also, the step up is like 20% (?)

Nowhere near the step from MX1 to MX2.

Also, the step from General to Maffs is bigger than from Maffs to MX1.

yeah I guess it's all a matter of time and I need to practice a LOT more. Hating locus and the parabola atm, and I've only touched parametrics slighty! (but I think I'll love it when I get it)

Agreed, give it a go - if it doesnt work out you can drop at any time.

Imo, 74% is a ":\" 85% is ":)" 90% is ";)" and finally 95%+ is ":D  :D"
