Hey BOS people.

Currently im in Yr 11 and attending a public school doing the subjects below (Signature) and wanted to know a few things about Ranks/Marks I'd need next year to get to my ATAR Goal. Look im going to be honest now there are many smarter people then myself at school and im not in the top ranks like a lot of the other people in Yr 11 on BOS who want to get into Med, but I really don't want to do anything else in my life but become a Doctor/Surgeon of some kind (Neurosurgery!) and no I don't want to do it for the salaries or anything like that, All I want to do is help people. I find anatomy and all of that medical stuff so interesting that I'll try my best next year no matter what happens...

So could someone maybe post the ranks i'd need for each subject and what I should be aiming for every test? My school rank is 3** in 2011 (Shit Rank :( ) . Also, How long should I be studying for a day...?

Thanks!

If your school rank is 300's, realistically aim for like first in everything if you want to get into med. Last year, I think the median ATAR that got into UNSW med was like 99.60 so you will need higher than your ATAR goal.

About studying, as much as you need to do well in your tests and UNDERSTAND everything. You'll need to experiment a bit- there's no magic number

First of all if you want to get into medicine forget about aiming for any particular university - you've said it yourself you aren't topping everything so you cant be picky. With the HSC though actual intelligence is almost irrelevant, if you consistently put in effort from term 1 to the HSC you can get a very good ATAR. You already have a goal and course in mind so it shouldn't be too hard to find motivation, personally i didn't really have a set goal or course until after trials and all through year 12 i had a kind of "Im doing good enough" mentality so i probably didn't do as well as i could have. You'll also have to do well in the UMAT so if you haven't already started i'd suggest you get familiar with how it works.

This pretty much, especially whats in bold. The amount of study depends on the person really.

Wow, 1st in everything... I'll be trying my hardest to get to the top spot!

Yeah, I shouldn't be so picky, but I would love to get into UNSW.

Yeah, i'll put that in mind and trial a few things.

Also depends on your cohort! But yeah, your subjects require you to achieve very high marks in each one to to able to go against the people doing very high scaling subjects.

You'll need higher than 95 percentile if your ATAR is < 97 for UNSW Medicine.

To have a realistic chance, OP'll probably need a 99.5+ ATAR and a 90+ UMAT.
